    Book-Reading Competition

So, last year, a friend of mine challenged herself to read 100 books during the course of the year. She told a bunch of people about it, and it caught on pretty quickly. I decided to try it out as well. I fell short by about 28 books, but it was fun to keep track of what I'd read and to have a goal for myself that I could constantly be trying to reach.

So, this year, I decided to do the same thing, challenge myself to read 100 books in 2011. That challenge is going to be met, I promise that. :P I think I can manage it, if I get off to a good start unlike last year.

    That's not entirely relevant, however.

What is relevant is this: While thinking about the personal challenge, I was wondering how I could share this with my boyfriend. Then, I'm sure you can see where this is going, I had an idea.

What if we had a competition? A race to see who can read the most books in 2011, or who can get to a certain number of books (like 100) first!

We decided to do a combination of both. You can read the rules to our particular challenge, and keep up with our progress, right here.

Anyway, so I thought I'd share this idea with you! If you and your SO are avid readers (or even if you're not really, and just want to challenge yourself to do something you wouldn't usually do), you can try this out! Prizes for the winner could be anything, you can get creative with that one.

Hope you guys find this interesting, and hopefully some of you can try it out and have fun with it.

(oh, and it's also a great way to discover new books to read)

I just wanted to say I love the idea. I personally would beat the crap outta that challenge (I love to read), but my SO doesn't read as many books as me. Thankfully he does enjoy reading, or else I dunno what I'd do. But I think that's a great challenge. I shall endavor to do as well.

Awesome! I'm glad! Hope you enjoy it, whatever it is.

Thanks, Karringtyn! ^^ I'm already falling behind, but when he starts back up with school in a week or so he'll slow down and I'll be able to catch him up again.

Thanks! It's too bad your SO doesn't read as much as you do; if he reads big books more than smaller books, maybe you could do something like average number of pages read every month, or something? Maybe if you challenge him to read more books than you, he'll make more effort to fit reading into his life, if that's all that keeps his numbers down. Just a couple of thoughts I had.
I do know that sometimes it's just so hard to find time to read, it's something I've been finding out for myself in the past few months. Especially with the addition of my SO; we already talked before we started dating but never as much as we do now, so I'm finding even less time to do leisurely activities now than ever before. XD

What a cute idea! My boyfriend and I are both avid readers, but we both get so busy we don't have time to read as much as we want to.

I read a lot more than he does, so if I happen to read a novel I think he'll like I usually send him a copy with notecards hidden inside with cute messages that he can read as he reads the book. :-P

While in your situation you are both avid readers and a competition might be the way to go, I think that setting a goal of reading a new book and then just talking about it with your SO at the end (of like.. a month or so) would work great too. Don't even need to read the same book or even genre of book. Just an idea if people aren't into the "read the most books the fastest".

Mfashnik, that is a great idea, I'm considering doing that from now on! I know my SO would love to receive a book with little surprises inside. ^^

And Kalmyia, great thinking! I didn't even think about that kind of thing, but it's a really fantastic idea that would work for just about anyone! Thanks!

This sounds like a good way to keep yourself distracted instead of constantly missing your SO. I may try to read more this year. Thanks for the idea!
