What to bring on an 8 hour flight

I have an 8 hour flight to Germany. I'm thinking of buying one of those travel pillows, but I feel like I need something else. Some type of entertainment. any suggestions?

I usually bring a book to read and something to do with my hands. I brought some string to make bracelets last time and I've brought handheld gaming systems before, as well as notebooks to write/draw in and a camera to take pictures out of the plane.

Bring a tablet or any portable game console. It keeps me entertained. Or if you're a bookworm like me, bring a book!

Who are you flying with? You should have an entertainment console that'll have movies, tv shows, sometimes basic games, and the like. The sound will suck, so bring your own headphones. For me, my Kindle is essential, so if you read, get an e-reader! 8 hour flights are long, but on most European/international flights, they'll feed you within an hour or so, then coffee/drinks, then they clean up. Watch a movie, and assuming it's an over night flight, sleep awhile, they'll probably give you a snack within two hours of landing, then offer drinks again. It'll go by more quickly than you expect. My biggest suggestion is to be tired when you get on the plane Nothing makes a flight go faster than a few hours sleep!

When I had my 9 hours flights to Frankfurt, I would sleep all the way! Only way to survive such a long flight! Especially since Condor flights from Puerto Rico normally take off in the evening, meaning that I would get to Germany in the morning. Bring books, mp3 player or any kind of game, mostly depending on the time of your flight.

i just got a nintendo 3ds xl with animal crossing new leaf to keep me entertained on my summer travels i'm traveling a lot so i needed some entertainment, and playing games really makes the time pass! i'd rather play a video game and feel like i'm actually doing something than just sitting there listening to music the whole time

Depends on what kind of money you have and what airport protocol you undergo for strictly EU travel.

I plan to just bring my eReader in my bag and read something during the flight, after spending a considerable amount of time trying to look out the window, visiting the toilet curiously, studying other passengers that may or may not be interesting enough to speak to, making plans for the first day or evening there once I arrived etc. I also plan to get some chess or sudoku app either on my phone or on my iPod, something...

Buying my tablet was the best thing I did to help my flights go by faster. I loaded it with books, games and shows. I was good to go!

I'm flying icelandair tomorrow and they give you NO food or drinks Yay for flying 9 hours total! Luckily I bought candy things and cookies. I'm bringing my 3DS XL as well, and a book, my iPod, and a coloring book. Flying during the day but I'll still try to sleep. And then of course there's the wonderful tv-thingies with movies for when I get bored

Are you flying them transatlantic? If so, they'll offer food and drink, but you have to pay for it, the prices aren't too bad and neither is the food. I fly them pretty often to Finland, because sometimes they're significantly the cheapest.

Coloring books are THE BEST seriously.

I brought an interesting book last time I traveled and finished it all on the plane (2h there and 2h back, I am lucky!) when I do long haul flights though (the longest I've been on is 16h) I rely on the plane's own entertainment, notebooks, and bring a travel pillow to try and sleep.

I'm really lucky that I sleep really well on planes. But I recommend taking a book and if you have a tablet, put movies and tv shows on to it incase there's no good inflight entertainment.

I can't sleep on planes, no matter how sleep deprived I've been (and when I manage, I always have dreams of the plane crashing, which is terrifying ), so I rely on the in-flight entertainment and usually bring a book or two - or my Kindle - with me. Colouring books are good if you want something to keep your hands busy, but mostly I find I like to let TV shows and movies drone on, whether I like them or don't, because by the end of the 30 minute TV show or 2 hour movie, I'm that much closer to my destination.
