It's great! I live here and we ride everywhere in the pouches of kangaroos!

Only joking, it's not as isolated as people think. Sydney is a huge city almost 5 million. Do you have any specific questions? The outback is full of dangerous things but there's danger everywhere. Although are renowned for having some of the world worst deadliest snakes and spiders. So, I guess I'm saying don't try to be the next turtle man and pick them up.

I've always wanted to go for vacation, among other things. And, did you read that story about some idiot who kissed a Viper snake on the lips, and he got bit???? I saw a picture of the guy's face, and I was like, "Wow. You're smart."

Don't expect much from anyone who flies a confederate flag, tbh.

He could actually be my SO's best friend! Apparently they used to trap and keep copperheads as pets when they were kids and yes he does also have a confederate flag. Rednecks

That's too vague to really answer. It's much like the States with some subtle and not so subtle differences. I have no personal experience with Sydney but I hear great things. Is there anything in particular you wanted to know?

                Literally laughed out loud. Also:

Not to scare you off though, it is a great country and you must try the Vegemite! Sydney is nice around the Harbour and Opera House. Pricey city though. Lots of nice beaches with white sand, etc. How close is your SO to the city?

Australia is awesome, not half as dangerous as they make it out to be. We're still alive, after all. Come visit now before our hopeless prime minister destroys everything. <-- Not even joking!

I'm from Sydney, born and bred, and basically it boils down to: busy, expensive, racist, heaps of public transport (except in the west, where they seem to think that no one needs to travel before 9 or after 6), and oddly casual despite the fact that everyone's always rushing somewhere. Lots of strangers will strike up a conversation with you at a bus stop, it's pretty much a rite of passage. When they realise you're from America, at least one person will try to scare you will how poisonous things are. At least one other will act as casually bogan-y as possible. Try a lamington! But we're becoming more and more like America by the day, thanks to the aforementioned prime minister, so it might not be so different after all

I visited Sydney for 5 days last October and really enjoyed it - the Harbour is beautiful, the beaches are awesome, and the city has a nice vibe (I'm Canadian and felt quite at home).

I spent 5 weeks in Australia and was definitely worried I would come in contact with a cane toad (saw a video about them in high school and literally had to leave the room crying I was so traumatised), hit a kangaroo with the rental car, or go in the ocean and never come out....! However, none of these things came close to happening, so don't be afraid.

Born and grew up in Sydney. It's a great city. I am really thankful to live here. Our air is clean, the parks and beaches are plentiful. There are people of many different cultures here, so you have the opportunity to meet new people and try new foods. Eating out can be expensive, but as long as you know the cheaper places (of which there are many!), you will be sweet. Try checking out the sydney subreddit if you need ideas.

                            Very very hot!!
I am from England so i am used to the cold and it is extremely hot to me, but if you are used to the heat then you'll be okay.

The beaches are lovely and the city's are also very nice. Get ready to start eating meat pies with your hands. Air conditioning will be your new best friend! Thongs are a type of shoe, also used for squishing bugs. Prepare for the amount of ice cream and ice lollies you will need to eat to keep cool. The heat is the most dangerous thing you will encounter unless you go far inland...

There's a lot of stuff to do! Just be careful, because it can get very expensive sometimes! I recommend cooking rather than eating out a lot, and make sure you check out some of the cool places like Taronga Zoo, and the Aquarium. If you guys are 18+ and looking for places to go out, make sure you check out Darling Harbour, Manly and the casino.
