Taking ceramic gift to Canada - allowed?

This coming Saturday I am finally flying to Canada to meet B for the first time. He collects ashtrays from all over the world and asked if I'd bring him one from Texas. My Mom had one for years and dug it out to give to him. It is ceramic and it will not be wrapped -- I'm putting in with my clothing for cushioning.

Will it be allowed on the plane? I'd hate to lose it to customs when it's a special gift from Mom.

I don't see why it would be an issue.

I plan on taking back ceramics with me to Canada, don't see why you couldn't.

While I've never flown to Canada, I've taken such weird stuff to France before that it's a wonder the officer watching the x-ray machine has never stopped the conveyor belt when my luggage passes through Last time I took fairy lights, a kettle, and a helium balloon; if I can carry stuff like that through customs, I can't imagine why ceramics would be a problem!

My boyfriend moved a complete computer and monitor in two suitcases and that went through without a problem, so I'm sure ceramics will be just fine
