I figure since I'm only a few caveats away from being able to call myself a professional artist, I should probably put my talents to good use until I figure out what exactly I'm going to be doing with my life. I love doing portraits and illustrations, so I figured I could sell prints or something.

I want to open up an Etsy shop, but I don't really know what people would actually be interested in buying. I can always offer commissions, but I would also like to be able to sell things that are like "I like this thing and look! A seller did a pretty drawing of said thing! Let me buy it!" I also don't know how I'd want to sell it. As in, I don't know if I should sell it as a physical object, or just the file. So like, you could buy a print and I'd either mail you a physical copy of the print, or you'd get a high resolution pdf that you can print at your leisure.
The good thing about sending files is it would save on the cost of shipping; however, sending a file is also putting myself at risk of redistribution. Physical copies cost money to send, and depending on the content, I might not be able to get it printed to begin with.

For instance, I got prints of this made months ago (facebook destroyed the quality). Clearly, neither the Genie nor Ariel are my characters, and everything about the drawing is arguably copyright infringement if I attempted to sell it. I almost couldn't get prints done of it to give to friends and family, because it IS very clearly Disney, and Staples ran the risk of getting into hot water for selling the prints to me since they do not own the copyright to those characters. However, the associate working the print center did the prints anyway and was just real careful about making sure his manager didn't see them.

So really, I dunno. It'd probably be safer for me to send physical copies. But again, I don't even know what to sell. If you're on etsy looking for a print of something, what sort of thing would you want to buy? Like, would you want to buy a print of a specific thing, or be given the option of a custom print? Or both?
