This is our first Valentines Day living together and I wanted to make it special. I got him the corny stuff... a box of chocolates and a card because of a playful conversation we had.

Me: Will you be my Valentine?
Him: No
Me: Why not?
Him: Because you don't have a card and candy.
Me: But... first you ask and then you get the card and candy.
Him: No candy no Valentine.
Me: I got candy.
Him: Is it Valentines Day candy?
Me: ...no
Him: What kind of candy is it?
Me: Gum.

But I also made plans to bake a strawberry shortcake and make it all pretty and nice like Japanese bakeries (they take strawberry shortcakes to the next level). Friday night he got sick and was throwing up all night. I ventured out into the coldest day of the year (windchill was -30) to get him some medicine, a big water bottle because all we have are small-ish glasses, ginger ale, and some crackers. Yesterday he slept half the day but was feeling much better by the evening. He went to D&D and ate pizza with no issues. So I started baking my strawberry shortcake (just the cake since the fresher the cream is the better it is). Friday night I was going to ask if he wanted to do anything special for today but I figured that was out the window. So earlier today I asked him if he'd perhaps be up for going out for dinner and he said no, he still doesn't have much of an appetite. So I assume that means my chocolates and cake won't be much of a hit either. Then there's going to the movies to see Deadpool - the theater would likely be packed, so no Deadpool.

Sigh. I just wanted to try and actually be festive on Valentines Day for once. He can't help it if he's sick, but a little enthusiasm would be nice.
