I have my big surgery tomorrow! And by big I mean long awaited, not complicated or anything. I was in a car accident (not even driving, not my driver's fault) about a year and a half ago that left me in a wheelchair for a few months, and crutches for many more (2 broken ankles and a broken hand). I've had a total of 6 surgeries in the past 1 1/2 years and this will make big number 7.
I'm getting the screws taken out of my right ankle. I have constant pain every day and I can't wear anything but sneakers. Which I would think would be fine, but honestly it sucks hard. I can't even wear slippers around the house without my feet hurting! Plus I used to be extremely active, and a swimmer. Now I can barely make it through a day of teaching. I'm really hoping that getting the screws out will help the pain. I'm eying a really cute pair of wedges at Old Navy that I want!
My mom is driving over from my hometown about an hour away to help me tomorrow, but my SO will be with me too. It's scary, but I'm glad the date has finally come.
If you'd like an anatomy class, I have a fractured talus in my right ankle. The talus is the main ankle bone that takes all the pressure/weight/etc from your leg. It is known to have really bad side effects such as necrosis, when the bone actually dies. Luckily, my fracture healed up very nicely for me. Here's the talus:
In that same foot I had a couple fractured metatarsals, plus my big toe was cut off. Yeah, that's right, it was CUT OFF. They did put it back on though My left foot had about 3 fractured metatarsals. I still have a screw in my left foot, but it doesn't bother me like my right foot.

#1Tara_Lynn commentedApril 18, 2011, 09:22 AMEditing a commentThat is crazy! And now my curiosity is going to lead to me asking my boyfriend about it and him giving me a 20 minute lecture about how much an injury like that blows. Lol. But I hope the surgery goes well and you get put those cute, soon-to-be-bought wedges to work asap!!
