I mentioned this in a post I started the other day, but want to make a post
Last night my SO and I were hanging out and we started talking about vacations we want to take. Next year, our big trip is going to be to Colorado to go skiing in January. My SO has never seen snow, so he obviously hasn't skied either. We're both excited about going, and I tried to casually bring up the fact that if we want to start the visa process we could get married while in Colorado. At first he looked at me like I was crazy and asked me to (again) explain how the visa stuff worked. I told him it takes about 10 months to get approved and that if we want to move back to the USA in 2014, we'd need to get married about a year beforehand. He asked about getting married here, and I think it'd be fine, but it'd just be easier to do it in the States.
Anyways, so it seems like that's the plan for now. It's still a little frightening to me, but I think we have a pretty great relationship. I don't see myself going anywhere, and he doesn't either. In the past year we've been living together, I've never had a reason to even consider breaking up with him. (just trying to convince myself that this is the right move) If he doesn't like living in the USA, then I'd be cool with coming back here.
We'll do just a courthouse thing in Colorado, and then we'd do a big white wedding once we move to the USA. I want a dress
I think it'll be good. I think it'll be fun. But January is still a long ways away. Things might change. But for now, I'm actually getting excited. And, surprisingly, my swinger, single-forever SO is excited about doing it too!
(oh and just as a PS- this is all under wraps, so don't out me on facebook!!!)
I think you can't have more than two last names in Germany (there might be exceptions to that, though). If you hyphenate you still have to decide for ONE last name for your child. I really want us to be the [lastname]-family, too.
Anyway... I think it's super cool that Oscar's giving living in the US a try!
