Why did I have to find out?

One of my coworkers who lives very close to me invited me over for lunch today after work. For whatever reason she said she needed help figuring something out and shows me what her salary is. She makes $500 more than me every month. *sigh*

This pisses me off for a couple of reasons. 1- I've been in the school for longer. 2- She's one of the teachers who only works until 12pm every day. Where I stay until 4pm 4 days a week.

Now tell me how that's fucking fair.

But of course I can't say anything. I sort of knew all along she was getting paid more than me, for whatever reason the school always pays the German teachers more. But I had never seen it in writing. I'm so mad I found out how much more she makes. So mad. Why the hell would she show me??!!

I make a very decent salary for Costa Rica, but now I feel cheated. I just don't understand why she's so much more valuable. Why she makes so much more money. Especially since I've been at the school longer!

... WHY did I have to find out??!!

In other random ass news- I want to try to plan a trip to Cuba with my SO sometime this year. See, once he gets his USA residency he won't be able to go to Cuba anymore. I'm not technically allowed to go, but US citizens get a tourist visa where they stamp instead of your passport. Since he would have a CR passport, he would get a Cuba stamp in his passport. Which would be an issue. But it wouldn't be an issue if we went BEFORE he gets his residency! So we have to figure out a trip sometime in the next few months.

I need a nap.

  I know why. The reason for the high pay is that she is a teacher, hired as a civil servant in Germany, taking part in an official exchange program. It is the same situation here. For the same job, hours etc. you get a lot less money if you aren't a civil servant. If you take part in this official exchange program, you are guaranteed the same salary as you would get here (or the same living standard, I'm not sure bout that). I don't know what kind of deal with the schools are made it somehow that's what happens.

  It really sucks about the salary difference...I agree with blankita about asking for a raise if yours came before all the added hours.
  Please please please go to Cuba and take loads of pictures!
  I was born there and would love to go someday, but it won't happen anytime soon :'(

  I'm actually surprised that not that many people know about the US embargo! I mean it's so stupid and ridiculous.
  
  Anyways... I'm not so much worried about the money, it's mostly the schedule thing that pisses me off. Then add on top she makes more than I do. Grrrrrr. They promised to change my schedule so it doesn't suck so much, but nothing has changed yet. I'll go today to ask about it.
