Because we're lushes and like to drink, we celebrated our "2 year in Costa Rica" anniversary last weekend. We went to a new restaurant that my coworkers recommended to me. It was. TO DIE FOR. Seriously. I mean let's face it, people don't come to CR to experience culinary masterpieces. The local food is fine and there's a few decent restaurants and even some good restaurants. But this is the first place I went to that was like DAMN. That was good.
I always like to joke that I'm "vegan except for fine cheeses, German sausage and duck" I tried duck for the first time in France a few years back and it is by far the most delicious meat ever. So for our "anniversary" dinner I asked for a duck plate. It cost... $40!!! Never in my life have I ever ordered something so expensive. But my SO was all like "DO IT" and I did and it was amazing. It was duck in fig and chianti sauce. Soooooo rich and delicious. The figs were great. And it came with a souffle which is just fancy by nature.
We also had a full bottle of wine, of course! And a dessert- semifredo which was nothing short of orgasmic. The biggest culinary shortcoming in Costa Rica is definitely desserts, but this semifredo tasted like an Italian masterpiece. Goodness it was fabulous.
So anyways, we had a great dinner. Pictures! They're not great because my camera is still broken from Cuba These were taken with my ipod.
Today and tomorrow we will be decorating our classrooms. I have "medicine" as you might have seen my post. It is always exhausting, not so much because I'm a control freak. But because I hate when the kids waste stuff! Like they pour out a bunch of paint and then use a little bit and let the rest to waste. Or they crumple up paper when they can re-use it or whatever. So I was being a total recycle everything Nazi which was tiring.
On Friday we have the "Noche Bohemia" and the school got a really great band to come play! They play Latin music, of course, and I'm very excited. (here's a pretty shitty video of them, they sound much better in real life!) The band is so great, that even my SO wants to come! Which is a real feat since he usually drops me off at school events then goes and waits in a bar. None of my students and only about 3 of my coworkers have met him, let alone even know I'm married! I told my little 6th grade girls he'll be coming and they're all excited. So silly.
Well that's really it!
ETA- I also recently made a salt scrub for the shower! I saw them at the grocery store and I was like I want one, but I wanted mint and they didn't have mint. They just had gross super sweet flavors like "strawberry cupcake" Yuck. My SO told me to just buy it because he's a grumble pants and like to grumble. Instead I made some out of salt (duh), almond oil, and peppermint oil. It is GREAT! I feel like salt water is the best thing you can use on your skin (especially for wounds, piercings, etc) and this smells so nice and is really refreshing. Mother's Day is next Thursday and I'm going to make some for my mother in law, and aunt in law because I think they'll like them.
So that's really it!
@ Rach- I rubbed the salt scrub on my SO's feet because he has gross crusty feet and he *loved* it. And his feet were so nice and smooth afterwards. But of course, he'll never use it on his own because he's too manly!
And you made me want to buy/make body scrub. Olive oil (or any oil that's not sunflower or rapeseed) is super expensive here, though. I think it would be cheaper to just buy the scrub.
