Chocolate pudding is the proof God loves us and wants us to be happy.
Yumm.
I've been writing pointless blogs for a bit now, but I just feel like writing again.
Things have been good round here. This Sunday I'll be going to Tortuguero for four days with a bunch of 8th graders. (here's a picture of the thriving metropolis, Tortuguero ) Which will be awesome, minus the 8th graders! We're going to be doing turtle studies and helping with the nesting and egg counting and such. I've been to Tortuguero 3 times now and it's really my favorite place in CR. It's so pretty and really remote. It's a 3.5 hour drive and then an 1.5 hour boat ride to get there. Since we'll be working with the turtles and doing plenty of hiking, I had to go buy some outdoorsy stuff. I didn't want to buy anything nice since I have hiking/camping stuff, it's just all in the USA. Well the one synthetic fiber CR is a specialist in is SPANDEX! So I went and bought some spandex stuff to use for the few days. The main thing I worry about is being wet. It's rainy season so it's raining every day, I want my clothes to be dry! So I have two shirts- one to wear, one to hang dry. That should last me the four days. I already told the kids don't even think about over packing. I will make them leave stuff. It's only four days, no one should pack more than a backpack of stuff.
I am a *little* nervous about Tortuguero. A month ago or so a turtle conservationist guy was murdered by poachers. Turtle eggs are big on the black market and poachers are always a problem. This guy got murdered when he was walking along the beach going to look at the turtles. And this was in Tortuguero. So it's a little scary, since we will be doing nighttime nesting stuff (8pm-4am). But everything will be fine, I'm sure!
My SO and I are going to our first dance class tonight! So I can wear all my fancy spandex outfits! Seriously, if I showed up to this dance class in basketball shorts and a t-shirt (which is what I would wear in the USA to exercise) I would look like a total slob. Everyone will have a bra matching the pants matching the socks matching the shoes. All in spandex of course. The least I can do is wear something spandex! And I actually feel really good in the stuff. There's a few rolls here and a few rolls there, but over all I'm like DAMN. Check out that hot chick in spandex! I normally dress somewhat conservatively, so it's not normal for me to wear something so skin tight. I also got some really pretty bras. I guess the good thing about sports bra shopping in this country is all the bras are meant to be worn by themselves, no shirt. So they're all really pretty and colorful! I got this nice blue and pink one that's strappy and cute. It looks like a bathing suit top!
Visa stuff is still going nowhere fast. I contacted my congressman after I found proof that overseas applications (ME) are supposed to be approved within 60 days. Well we've been waiting over 5 months. It's under the 6 month norm, but still. We'd be just fine potentially having to wait until July 2014 to get everything done. (they're now saying petition approval is taking 12 months instead of the normal 6, but who knows) But I don't wannnnaaaa. I guess the thing is just the mindset. Had I put in my petition and knew that it would take a year and a half to get visa in hand, then I would have been prepared for that. But I was here thinking we'd get back to the USA by February 2014, I was excited to be cold and see snow, excited about applying for teaching positions and helping my mom with swim team. I'm excited to get my SO a job and to take a few weeks and travel around the USA while we wait for the green card. And now that it's like, shit, we might not get to do that until July. It's just got me a little down. Especially since I've sort of been hating CR recently. (as you saw in one of my previous blogs)
But I still do like it here. This Friday I'm planning on going out to a bar with some coworkers. I really like most of my coworkers. They're fun and like to drink almost as much as I do
Trying to work on saving the swim team at my university. We'll see what happens.
And it's now nap time before my SO gets home and we head off to DANCE CLASS!!
I understand how you feel about the application unexpectedly taking so long. Mentally preparing yourself for something and then getting disappointed is the worst
I'm sure it'll get through soon, though. You guys are as legit as it gets!
I've told you a few times before, but I admire your packing skills. I'm always worried about the weather changing or something getting dirty and I love my clothes, so I almost always overpack. Teach me the art of travelling light, oh great lucybelle
Also I though you and Oscar didn't need dancing lessons but post pics of the spandex outfit!!
