Yesterday was the 6th grade graduation trip. The director decided to give the kids and me the day off today. Which I think is stupid. I mean, how do you get a day off.. after a day off? I was about to go in anyways, but my SO told me that if she's giving me a day off I should take it. So I did!
But the trip was great. We went to an all-inclusive hotel for the day. We basically just hung out at the pools. The kids started playing keep-away, boys v girls, and I played too. Now, I grew up in the pool, that's like my territory right? So I am excellent at fighting in the water. At first, the boys were being real gentle with me, but after I started dunking them and pulling them underwater they got it. I beat them up so bad! It was great! I am definitely the strongest swimmer of the group and they started calling me "the shark". This one kid grabbed my arm and wouldn't let go so I dunked him over and over until he did. It was great. The kids had a freaking blast. And I'm all sore today I bet those poor kids never got beat up on before. They needed that!
Sitting at home enjoying a beautiful day. Well, trying. One of my coworkers wrote saying that the English director is pissed I didn't come in today. That she's probably going to call me and tell me to come in. Now I'm trying to not get all stressed out. I just hope the English director is more pissed at the main director for giving us the day off, than at me for not coming in. *sigh*
On to other things!
Still waiting on a reply from the Prague thing. We sent the application in Monday morning, and haven't heard back yet. I'm wondering if I should have my SO send in a follow-up email, just to make sure it went through. See, we sent it through this "apply here" link instead of emailing it straight to the lady. I wasn't looking for a "yes, we would like an interview" type of response, but at least a "thank you for your interest in our company, we'll look over your resume and get back to you" type of deal. I mean my SO fits the description of what they need to a T. Minus the fact that he still doesn't have his degree yet, he'll have it in December. With that sort of experience I think we at least warrant a "thanks for your application" email!
Next- our wedding party. It's on hold for now. The biggest thing we need to book is the photographer and in order to reserve we have to pay 50%. Obviously, we don't want to do that if my SO ends up getting the job and we move.
(Randomly I looked up a few other positions in Europe [can you tell I want to move??] and I found another one my SO would be great at. Problem is, the description is in German, location Switzerland. I wonder if that means they want you to speak German. They say you need to speak English. They don't say anything about speaking German [or Swiss-German!], but I guess if the info is in German that's a given? Hmm, wonder if I should have my SO apply anyways...)
Also, it seems like visa stuff is moving. Lots of people on VJ have been transferred and then approved about 2 weeks afterwards. I was transferred on Oct 31, so maybe hoping for an approval next week (or a job offer for my SO)? **fingers crossed** I'm going to spend some time today calling USCIS and trying to figure out where my case was transferred.
ETA- Called USCIS and ***only*** had to wait 29 minutes on hold! That's like a goddam record! Anyways, got my address changed, finally. And I found out I was transferred to Texas. I was hoping for Nebraska, lots of approvals coming out of there, but it is what it is.
Well I guess that's it really. Have a great day
It's crazy that there's such discordance between the English Director and the general one. You'd think the latter would consult the former before giving you the day off. Oh well. You shouldn't really give a crap.
I say yes to both sending a follow-up e-mail directly to the lady, and applying to the position in Switzerland because it wouldn't hurt. Also Switzerland is an amazing country!
Fingers crossed for the visa!!
I'm glad your case got transferred. Does that mean that up until now, it was just sitting at the lockbox facility? Is that how it works with USCIS?
