We finally got our interview date!! July 3 is our big day. I'm psyched. We're lucky because on July 4 we're going to a wedding for the weekend. So if all goes as planned, we'll be celebrating a new couple AND a visa approval that weekend!
This morning I bought two big folders and organized ALL our visa papers in them. I'm feeling all prepared and good. I have a list of things we still need to get or print, but we're mostly good. I know for sure we'll be over-prepared for the interview. I've heard they only ask you a few questions, but I'd rather be over-prepared and get the visa than be under-prepared and get put into Administrative Processing or even worse- denied.
I'm already getting a little sad about leaving. I mean I've lived in this country for 3 years. My SO has been here his entire life. It's going to be a big change, but it'll be good. The weather has been so beautiful lately. I'm certainly not looking forward to getting to Southeast USA right in the middle of summer where it's so damn hot and humid you don't even want to leave your house. Unless you're going somewhere else with AC. All the pools and oceans and lakes are all hot by July. There's no refuge from the heat!
I turned in my resignation letter this week! Man it felt good. My main director still hasn't said anything to me which really pisses me off. She's had no conversation with me, nothing. I've been there for 2.5 years and she doesn't give a shit that I'm leaving. I guess she probably knows I have 0 respect for her, I certainly don't try to hide it. Well good luck trying to find an English mother tongue secondary science teacher in Costa Rica.
We're also looking at trying to get our stuff sold. We don't have much, but hopefully we'll be able to make $1500-2000 off everything. The main things we need to get rid of are our couches and table/chairs. Luckily we got them for REALLY CHEAP. So we're going to sell them for the same price we bought them for.
Right now my SO's friend is saying he wants them. About a year ago (when we were planning on getting our visa and leaving by December 2013. HA! How naive) we told this friend that we would give him the couches for a really cheap price. See he was buying an apartment for him and his (now) wife and needed everything. Well evidently he couldn't wait and bought EVERYTHING for the apartment. Everything brand spanking new. Now, he's saying he wants the couches again. But I'm really not feeling like giving him a discount. Not only does he already have everything, but we just gave him $100 at their wedding. I feel like the "cheap couch" ship has sailed for this guy. And I know this guy is just starting living on his own and stuff, but we're making an international move. We need help, too.
In other big news- my SO finally graduated from college! He's been working at it for over 10 years. He's worked full time and gone to school part time. And a lot of the part time was while he was a swinging, boozing bachelor and didn't really give two shits about getting a degree. So it took a while. Technically he finished his school work in December, but they only have one graduation a year so we had to wait until now for him to "officially" graduate. (here's something positive I try to think about when I get angry about visa shit- had we gotten the visa earlier we wouldn't have been here for the graduation and it would have made it pretty damn complicated to get his degree)
My SO is currently at a friend's house watching the Costa Rican soccer game. Neither of us like soccer (can you believe it? A Latino who doesn't like soccer??!! ) but I told him to go anyways. I mean, we're leaving in a month, he should hang out with his friends. I feel like until we leave the country, I'm not going to be his priority. I think I'll have to be okay with that.
Tomorrow I'm sure we'll have to do something for father's day. Trying not to get into too many personal details, my SO does not get along well with his father. And I don't blame him. In fact, even though my SO's parents are very sweet, I've been feeling very bitter towards them lately. (again trying to avoid details) We basically have to take care of them. Anytime we go somewhere we have to give them a ride and pay for them. They never offer to pay for themselves, they never contribute to dinners (like by bringing a bottle or wine, or whatever), they never even say "thank you". They also "expect" things. Like this huge nice photobook I made for them, his mom didn't even say "thank you"! Not only was it expensive, but I took a really long time putting it together. Now after graduation she's telling me "you need to give me pictures from the graduation" Umm.. what? Also my SO lent his dad a pair of nice shoes to wear one time, and his dad just kept them. I mean I guess it's not a big deal, but it's sort of rude. It's just... ughh. So yeah, I'm also trying to play the good daughter-in-law for just a little while longer. We'll be out of the country soon enough. (I also feel like these mandatory family get-togethers always happen when I'm sick. I've been sick since Tuesday and am only now starting to feel slightly better. But I can't skip out or it'll look bad. Can't wait til I'm back at in the USA where "father's day" celebrations consist of me buying my dad a case of beer and that's it.)
(well that rant came out of nowhere!)
My SO has been an EXCELLENT house husband. Like I knew he would be. Haven't had to wash a dish in two weeks.
So only two weeks left of work for me! Haven't been able to tell the kids yet, the English director told me to wait a few days. Not sure why. But I'd like to tell them next week. I'm also trying to write my own recommendation letter for my English director to sign. It's not going very well.
Well suppose that's it for now. Have a great weekend!
And, go ticos?
