Dance with me!
Woo that was so crazy and so relieving. The process was pretty easy. First window we watched a guy organize and staple the shit ton of papers I sent to the NVC. He asked a few questions. He asked for proof of relationship and domicile. I began to pull out tons of papers from my accordion folders and he eventually laughs and says "I'm sure this will be enough". One of the things we gave as evidence was the wedding photobook I made. The guy liked it so much he showed it to a couple of other people behind the windows as well. Then we sat for a while longer and eventually got called for the actual interview. The guy kind of looked like George Takei. He asked us a few questions in English and eventually says "your visa is approved, congratulations" I said "YAY!" He gave us a receipt for my SO's passports to pick up on Monday with the visa! The best part was right when we walked out of the office the USA v Belgium soccer game was starting, and the USA national anthem was on. We stayed and listened to it. It seemed so perfect.
As we were leaving the embassy I started to break down a little. Anticipating this I wore waterproof mascara. I bet all the people in the line outside thought we were denied, but it was because I was so freaking relieved everything was finally over. We live so close to the embassy we walked there and back. It was nice to walk home, even though tons of people saw my ugly crying face.
It was funny because we got home and my SO said "do you want to call about your residency?" (about mine here in CR) I was like FUCK NO. I am done with immigration shit for THREE YEARS. Okay? THREE YEARS I get a break. Then we apply for his passport. Anyways.
We went out last night to our favorite restaurant and had a delicious meal. For maybe the first time ever I didn't eat too much at the place.
Today we bought our plane tickets home! Yehaw! July 16 is the big day. We've got a list of shit to get done. This weekend is my friend's wedding which will be a BLAST but it's the whole weekend and we need to get stuff done. We're currently trying to sell our furniture for exactly how much we bought it for, because we got both for more than half off original price. But if we can't, we can drop the price $100 or so and I bet they'll be gone in the same day. Car is another big thing to sell.
Also I want to have maybe a final get together with friends down here. And wear this ridiculously Latin dress I bought here. It's short, tight and covered in blue sequins. I can't wear it in the USA, but I can here! So I need to wear it before we leave. Hoping to go to my favorite salsa club, the one where my SO and I met! A perfect ending.
Another perfect ending is that CR is doing abnormally well in the World Cup! This is the first time that they have ever made it so far. The country is going insane and even I, hater of all things soccer, am really getting into it. How couldn't I be? The parties have been AWESOME.
A part of the city after CR beat Greece
Oh something kind of funny, my friend's wedding this Saturday happens to be at 3pm, when Costa Rica plays at 2pm. She told me she had people ask her to move her WEDDING so they could watch the game! haha! I bet people will have mini radios and headphones during the ceremony. Shit you not. Though I do hope CR wins, then the wedding will be a REALLY GREAT PARTY.
I also spent a good hour or so today looking up tickets to India for my friend's wedding in December! Thinking of going Wed-Wed, so my SO would only miss 6 days of work. I found a flight with a 12 hour layover in London. I thought it would be perfect! Like two trips in one! I told my grumpy SO about it and he seems more excited than I thought he would be. (Before I mentioned that maybe we don't have to get jobs right away. That we can live with my mom for free and travel and shit until January and then find jobs. So we can go to India for longer and see the USA and maybe visit my sister in Germany. My SO was not fond of that idea. )
Well guess that's it for boring blog for now. I'm bouncing between being really excited to go home and being really sad to leave CR. I knew it would be like this. It still doesn't seem real yet. That we're going to stay. I can't wait to see my puppy!
Have a great day
Hope you manage to sell everything for a good price!
Also the LEAST the bride could do is order that a TV would be placed inside the church If my country had qualified to quarter finals I would have CANCELLED my wedding!
Dziu- they asked when/where did we meet, how many times we visited each other, how long I had been in CR, why I was in CR when we originally met and how long I stayed that time, when we became an official couple (this one I spoke up on because I knew my SO would have a different answer and I knew mine would be better. haha, fyi I said we became a couple right away), had we been married before, did we have kids together, did we have kids before the marriage. And that was it! None of those prying "what color is his toothbrush" questions.
Oh and forgot to mention- the very first question (before the interview) they asked my SO when we got married and HE FORGOT THE DATE. I felt like punching him in the face. I corrected him and nothing happened. But still. Way to scare the shit out of me holy crap.
Thanks! That seems fairly easy. Thinking about it, minus the visit thing (and I would have a problem with that -um... a lot?!-) that is basically what we got asked at the registry office when we gave them our documents. They asked Olek a few questions to see if his German was good enough that he doesn't need an interpreter
