I just wrote this in "woym" thread, but I came home from work early today. I've been doing math tutoring after school every day and I don't have to today. So I'm all psyched about coming home and vegging out watching Grey's Anatomy and I pull in the driveway and my grandma's at the house! Noooooooo. So I shut up in my room and hope that she won't bother me. Bad granddaughter.
Well I'm back from the trip to Costa Rica. It was a very strange weekend. It was so sad, yet I was so happy to be back in CR. We had a kind of crappy flight down (freaking US airways is ALWAYS late) and had to go straight to the funeral from the airport. We changed in the car! My sister-in-law was distraught. It's so sad to think about, I can't imagine what kind of pain I would go through if I lost my SO. Poor girl. She had a very hard time. She would be doing okay for a while and then get very angry and hurt. Some days she was so bad she would just start screaming. I'm so glad we were there to help her.
The second day I went to do some errands, bought some flowers for SIL apartment where we were staying. That night the entire family and BIL's family went up to a restaurant for dinner. It's the same place where my SO and I had our wedding party. It's just beautiful up there. It was nice but it was so hard for me to understand a lot of the family. I realized when I got back to CR how much of my Spanish I already had lost. I mean I speak with my SO all the time, but it's normally the same conversations "how was work" etc. And since I'm only speaking with him I'm not practicing with accents and such. Guess I need to watch more Telemundo here in the USA...
On Friday I got to go to my old school. I'm mad I didn't take any pictures. My old students were soooooooo happy to see me. I went to the window of one classroom and peaked in. I watched this girl's face as she saw me and recognized me. It was adorable. It was basically this- Then they all ran out and gave me a hug which was less adorable because, yuck, children. It was really nice. Afterwards, my old coworkers and I went to our favorite tapas place and drank way too much wine. That lead to going to another bar where way too much beer was drank and (ugh) shots were taken. What a great night.
Saturday my SO and I went to his friend's baby shower. And here's tico time at its greatest: we showed up two hours late and were the FIRST PEOPLE to get there. I'm not very close with any of these friends but I get along with them fine. The father of the baby was telling so many funny damn jokes. It was a lot of fun.
On Sunday we had a delicious lunch from my SO's aunt and uncle. Afterwards we went to hang out some more with my friends. And again, I drank too much. Bailey's this time. I mean that shit is like dessert!! Delicious!!
Despite the circumstances, I loved being back in CR. I even said to my SO that if he could find a job in CR that pays like a job in USA, I would move back. (Well, after he gets his US passport of course! Not doing that mess again!) He agreed. I loved seeing my friends and my SO's family. We still plan on visiting in December, so that'll be nice.
Monday we flew home and got all fucked up. We got to Miami and they couldn't open the door to the cargo place of the airplane. We waited 2.5 HOURS to just get our damn luggage. After that we had to go through customs and then reschedule our flights at a counter since we had obviously missed our flight by then. By the time we got to the desk, we had missed all flights to our city and had to book for the next day. Luckily the airline put us up for a night in a hotel and gave us some food vouchers (that of course did not cover the price of the damn expensive hotel food, but whatever). I was actually kind of looking forward to a night with my SO, alone! But we were so damn tired (5+ hours in the Miami airport, plus however long on the flight) and disgusting we just had a few beers, took a shower and passed the fuck out. We were going to watch some TV and maybe made it seven minutes before both of us were knocked out!
Tuesday we finally made it home and I went to get my hair dyed. I've had to move the appointment like five times so I figured I'd just go ahead and go. It took soooo long that I was falling asleep in the chair! I asked the lady to give me "as blonde as you can get" highlights. Aaaand.. it's kind of blue. She highlighted my hair and then put this blue "toner" on it. I was like.. uhh, alright! It is a beauty school but I've always had great experiences there. I guess I like my hair, but it's not quite what I expected. I'm not picky though, so whatever
May is going to be a tough month. I've been doing after school math tutorial like I mentioned for some extra money. May starts swim season. So I'll be working at school all day, doing math tutorial, then leaving and going straight to the pool to work until 6:30 with swim team, then do swim lessons until 7:30 or 8pm. Tough days for sure, but we definitely need to make up that $$$ we had to spend on those last minute tickets to CR.
Saturday I'm going to two job fairs for the neighboring cities. I'm pretty excited about one city because I think they have a bilingual middle school. I'd love to work at a bilingual school. I could definitely throw down on some science classes in Spanish. It'd keep me from losing it, too!
So wish me some luck on Saturday, I hope they have a position I love. Hope all is well

#2MissButterfly commentedMay 2, 2015, 05:18 AMEditing a commentI'm glad you could be there to support your SIL, and that you had a chance to see everyone again! Must indeed be really weird, to be there for such a reason with mixed feelings. Your hair looks awesome! I would have been so shocked if that happened to me, but now you get to try something you otherwise may not have haha And good luck today!
