I am so freaking happy its done! It feels like its taken forever, but its done and I'm so pleased with it! It wouldn't be so bad if it was just painting- we should win the lottery and pay someone to do the plastering! Its easy enough to do but it takes a looooong time and even with covering the vents, there was dust absolutely everywhere for weeks! And it was the small room- it makes me just want to deal with the textured walls everywhere else, but then one random smooth room will look stupid... anyway it will be a while before I tackle our bedroom- its the black dining room wall which is next on my list!

So, this is the room we began with:

The inside of the wardrobe was painted this green color with blue shelves- so freaking annoying to paint over!

We are lucky that knockdown isn't too bumpy to start with, but it had to go! We still don't even think we want kids at all and if we do it will be a long time coming so there was no need to keep the monkey thing either So we started with the plastering using this tutorial, if anybody is interested. We didn't buy a magic trowel, just a regular $5 window cleaning squeegee, which did the job well. And it took 2 boxes of "reduced dust" joint compound, which was BS. If we do it in our bedroom I won't be wasting the extra couple of $$ on that- there was so much dust I'm sure buying the normal stuff won't make any difference!

So here's 3 layers of plaster- the monkey and green wall are are still visible:

Then we primed, which took 3 coats over the dark green wall and monkey/palm tree; we probably could have got away with just just 2 layers but primer costs less than paint and I didn't want to risk having to buy another can of paint We went with Benjamin Moore Thundercloud in the end and we both love it I was thinking of easy re-sale for our color scheme as its not going to be our permanent house, and grey guestrooms/ nurseries are fashionable and neutral. I wanted to have yellow as the accent color but couldn't find anything in-stores, so I went with teal instead as it was available and my parents are landing tonight- I probably would have waited and ordered stuff online if they weren't coming

All in all, because we put our old furniture in there and we didn't switch out the light fixture, we spent under $150 on the all the painting equipment, wall stuff, lamps, curtains with rod and the throw on the bed The owners before us left all their paint cans in the garage so I could paint all the shelving in the wardrobe without spending extra money

My next project was going to be the black wall in the dining room, but we had an incident in the basement hallway, so I think I'll be painting that next. The walls got all scuffed from when we had the new washer and dryer put down there and I thought I'd used the right color paint to patch it up, but noooope. Who uses 2 slightly different colors of beige in the same house? Just use one color and be done with it So now the wall looks like it has crappy polkadots all over it, and I'm probably just going to have to buy a whole new can of paint and start over lol

The house has finally come together though, just need to hang some pictures/mirrors and our bedroom needs new furniture- its so empty right now. My Dad gave us some money to buy a new bed as a housewarming present so we've got a sturdy steel bedframe with a tufted headboard, which looks lovely, just not with our white laminate nightstands and that awful black accent strip! I'm thinking we'll just save up and slowly buy quality, long lasting pieces now, because its cheaper in the long run.

Word for warning if you're in line for a new bed frame, Forever Foundations beds are absolutely terrible to put together. The pieces are supposed to just snap into place easy-peasy, but it took both mine and my SO's body weights and a hammer to get the bastard together and it took us hours too. I've never had so much rage and hatred for an inanimate object before, but afterwards we were both so angry that we had to go to opposite ends of the house for a while. I told him we're never getting rid of it now, because I refuse to try take it apart and put it back together again!

And that's me for now, my parents and sister are here for 2 weeks from tonight and we're going to go to a log cabin in Steamboat Springs for a few days whilst my sister is in Disneyland. So I'll try to pop in to the vets section at least, and I'll be on facebook of course. If I'm gone for longer, then I'll have been arrested for the murder of my sister, and thus be in prison
