Sorry if this post sounds a bit random. I know I should make a proper blog, with more wedding details and I will do it soon. But I want some opinions:
- Photography is very important for us. We want to hire a story teller type photographer. Not a traditional one. Our wedding planner sent us different options and we picked our 3 favorites. Then we checked their pictures again, reviews and so on and we both felt in love with 1 and want him to be our photographer. The problem is: it is quite expensive.
We are trying to cut costs and are looking at different alternatives to save money on some items and add that money to the photographer. Remember we set a budget and we want to stay within it. The alcohol item has not been modified until now because we want to do so once our guests have confirmed/ declined our invitation. However, I think this is an item we can play with. Our wedding planner also told us that all the unopened bottles can be returned after the party and we get the money back.
So far we have (an estimated suggested by our wedding planner) :
Rum: 15 bottles. This will mainly be used to make mojitos and such.
Whiskey: 12 bottles. My girl friends and I don't drink whiskey. So this will mainly be for my relatives and my friends' husbands/bfs
Vodka: 10 bottles. For cocktails. My girl friends drink more cocktails than anything else
Cava: 12 bottles. For the toast
Red wine: 12 bottles
White wine: bottles
Beer: 48 bottles
I know my people and Daniel's. We are sure that is A LOT and it can easily be cut to a half and we could still have a kick-ass party. There will be plenty of food and entertainment as well.
I was checking ways to stock a bar for a party and I read that for a 50 people party they suggest:
Beer: 120 bottles
Wine and champagne: 18 bottles
Hard liquor: 6 bottles
Mixers: 24 liters
Ours will be a 60 people party. It can be down to 50 as not everyone comes. I am having a Skype convo with my SO in some minutes and will discuss this better. In the meantime, if you feel like leaving suggestions do it, they are more than welcome. I want to have more arguments to discuss different options with our wedding planner next time we talk. My SO and I really want to work with that photographer, but we also want to stay in our budget. Help!

We're going to hire that photographer. I am so thrilled! We now have to secure him with the 30% of the total amount he charges.
Daniel and I discussed the alcohol part and we're considering going with the half+1 of every amount suggested by the wedding planner. The whiskey is the most expensive one -I don't even know why people drink it, it tastes horrible!-. The amount of beer will stay intact: 48 bottles. I think it should be enough. I am not an expert in party planning and being the social drinker I am, I have no idea how much is too much or too little -alcohol wise-. But I don't want to show such inexperience to our wedding planner. He's been great, but I get the feeling that most wedding planners get some extra money from the providers, for choosing them. Many people in Colombia try to take advantage of you, if you show some insecurities or that you have no idea what they are talking about. I don't trust! :reface:
I will keep blogging next week. There is another item where I think we could save some money too: decoration. I already have some ideas and will share them with you guys, to get suggestions and such. You guys are awesome!!!
