Today is a special day. A month and 2 days after applying for a family reunification visa, my husband got the long-awaited letter from the municipal government office in charge of such matters.

This is the second step to follow after applying for the visa. We are very happy because we know that soon we will be together and the that wait is getting shorter. Even if the embassy say this type of visa can take 8 to 10 weeks to be processed, we’re hoping to receive an answer before the 8 weeks. And seeing how things are going, it may well be so. Because yeah, the husband got the letter, but it doesn’t mean I automatically get my visa.

I woke up everyday hoping the husband would tell me he’ve got mail, but unfortunately it was not like that. Since I read many cases of couples who have applied for the same type of visa and their partners got a notification a month after applying, I started to worry when it was Monday September 22nd, which marked a month of our application, and the notification had not arrived. That day we were a bit disappointed and we both said we were starting to get tired of waiting, not only because of the letter, but also because we are still waiting for our wedding pictures.

Until today, September 24th, when the notification finally came. I woke up and had no messages from my husband, which made me think he was very busy at work. However, I took the chance and sent him some loving messages before going downstairs for breakfast. When I went back to my room, I checked my iPod and there was the message I’ve waited for for weeks: “We’ve got mail!” :-):-) I Smiled and then I wrote back to let him how happy I was to finally see things moving. The day of permanently closing the distance is getting closer.

The citation basically asks the husband to go to the office in charge and bring his employment contract, rental agreement and monthly income certificate. All this I guess to make sure we will have a safe and appropriate place to live and that the husband has enough income to provide for the both of us the first months, while I take the integration course and until I receive my permission to work in Germany. Once all documents are provided, I think the Immigration office in Hameln will send the Ok or not to the German embassy in Bogota to issue my visa. The husband has the appointment on Friday and he will also try to register our marriage in Germany. If it all goes well, in a couple of weeks I should be getting my visa. And with the visa in hand, we can buy my ticket back to Germany and start our married life. How exciting, I can not wait!

After such great news, I went to the city center and mailed to Bogotá my degree certificate and other documents. Right now I’m in the process of getting apostilles and translations of all documents I think I will need when I move to Germany. After 1 month and a half of being married, I still can’t believe it. I look at my wedding band and always have to smile. It’s so simple, yet so beautiful. It means so much to me and either way it makes me feel close to my husband, it makes me forget the 8929km that separate us at the moment. It makes me smile. :-)
