On one hand, it would be awesome to get something from him (he always feel bad because he never has the money to get me anything, not that I really care), but on the other hand, I really don't want him spending money on me because he should really save it for his debts/start saving money in general. I've made it very clear to him that he should save that money, or at least most of it, and I have told him countless times that I don't want anything for my birthday.
If anything, I told him I wanted to go to the Philadelphia Zoo and/or the Adventure Aquarium in Camden and that was it.
Maybe a nice dinner. I don't know. I've never been to a "nice" restaurant before, as in...one where I would have to wear a dress and nice heels to. When I first told him that, when we first started dating, he was shocked. His response was, "You've never been to a nice restaurant before?!! Your ex never took you??!!!" And I was like, "No, not really. He never wanted to go and he didn't have the money because I paid for everything..." Plus, my ex wasn't that type of guy. He was never romantic. So I guess, either a nice dinner or the Zoo/Aquarium is something I'd be fine with, if he did want to spend money on me. If not, I'm content just watching a movie with him and going out to Olive Garden. That's what we did last year and I didn't mind. I'd rather just be with him, which, thankfully he has a 4 day weekend that weekend of my birthday and off on my actual birthday.

Sometimes I think it'd be nice to get a promise ring from him, but then I'm like, "I really don't want him to spend that kind of money."
Plus, I've been pretty pessimistic about the whole thing, like I do for every holiday, because I don't want to get my hopes up. I did that with my ex and I got let down every time. I know my SO is different, but I still don't want to make a big deal about those sort of things, especially knowing he doesn't have the money and I always feel bad when he spends money on me to begin with.
And, sometimes my SO talks a lot. -_- Although, this time he might be serious because he keeps asking me if he's off around my birthday and keeps making sure that he's off, so I don't know. He's being mysterious.
By the way, if you tell guys you don't want anything/they don't need to get you anything, they often take it as litteral.
