I'm ready to take the plunge but finance is a problem

Hi all. I'm new on the forum so just finding my feet. Basically I'm ready to make the move to Italy from Uk after being in an ldr for 3 years with my dear boyfriend and best friend.
We have been through a lot, myself with my health and him with the death of his brother and subsequent debts afterwards. Against all odds we have managed to meet up in both countries on average five times a year and are deeply in love.
I'm ready to sell up and move over to Italy but the job situation is dire. Although I have many skills, speak Italian and am more than familiar with the way of life there, I'm struggling to find work.
Anyone else in a similar situation?

Are you sure that is the way you want to go about it? The unemplyment is high in Italy, and Italians themselves are moving out of the country to find work these days. Have you considered him moving to you?
I made love to him only twice, she thought and looked at the man laying asleep beside her. And yet still it is as if we have been together forever, as if he has always known my life, my soul, my body, my light, my pain

Hi and thanks for replying! Well, that is a possibility as he is also a writer and teaches too. However, he
his mother 80 and is in the early stages of dementia. I would have no problem caring for her.
He currently lives with her but also has inherited his brother's house in the countryside. The property is mortgaged and with the price of properties at an all time low, if he sold, it would barely cover the mortgage and could, in fact, potentially jeopardise the current family home.
I feel at the moment, everything is against us. He is extremely patient and I'm not. My daughter works abroad and is due to marry in January, my eldest son is leaving home to set up with his gf and the youngest who is 18, has just completed his training to be a joiner. He will be able to live with his elder brother. So in reality, it is, we think, the right time to start our life together.

Taking care of people with dementia is a fulltime job, much like looking after a kid. Have you looked into a home for her? Otherwise I don't see how both of you could earn a living as her dementia gets worse. Also, have you considered visa through marriage?

I don't have any practical advice for you since I know nothing about finding a job in Italy. However, I wanted to take a moment to comment just to tell you not to lose hope! It sounds like you have your mind made up and that's the first step! Keep your head up and keep searching for a job there! Best of luck to you!

I am hoping you have a special type of competance that Italy is craving, because the unemplyment rate is currently around 14 percent and even educated people with work experience often can't find work. My friend's Italian wife moved together with him to find job in the UK. She has a doctorate in Italian linguistics and says it is impossable for her to get at job in Italy, she will not even bother trying.

Even so, it is not easy to apply for jobs when you currently don't live in the country. Because that means that you can't come on job interviews on short notice, you can't start working on short notice, in short: you are potentionally an unflexible worker. And you compete with the others who live in Italy and probably have more Italian work experience than you do. I do think your best shot is saving up money, move on a marriage visa and then use local network to find a job.
