    Hand-made woolen socks

Woolen socks are quite traditional in Finland, and I have talked a lot about them to my SO. It's almost a joke that I'm wearing woolen socks constantly... They're warm and comfortable, and I just love them! So I decided I would knit her woolen socks.

I've never been too good with crafts and I haven't fancied knitting that much, but today I bought some yarn and with a bit of help from my friends, I managed to get started with my very own self-made first pair of woolen socks!

They shouldn't be very hard to make, and I'm pretty sure there's some good instructions in English too in the Internet... I'll update here how they turn out to be, but I tend to be quite slow with this kind of stuff.

I've never tried knitting though I'd like to, but I know how to sew and I'd like to make something for my SO but I'm unsure of what to make him yet. I'd like to see how your socks turn out once you've finished

I used to knit when I was a kid (yeah, strange activity for a kid, lol), but my grandma was knitting a lot, making woolen socks for all of us and I practically did what she did. No technical/pro in it, but I like it. Good luck with the whole process It's very sweet of you to knit something for her. ^^

Knitting sounds fun although I don't know if I would have the patience for it! It's a cool gift to give, I'd love to do something like that for my SO!

Thanks to all for your replies! I haven't been able to answer because I have been busy and my Internet connection is something very frustrating. I will try to add some photos of my progress this weekend, I think I will be done with the first sock in a few days. When I was a child I hated knitting because it was obligatory in school, but now that I just get to do it with my own pace without anyone giving me grades from what I'm doing I have started to enjoy it. So I have been knitting before, and actually made one sock in my early teens... But it failed miserably and it never got ready. And my SO can't believe I'm knitting for her - I had to tell her because I needed her shoe size, heh. She went all "are you really? are you serious?"

I finished the sock number 1 yesterday and started the other one! Hey, I think I've started to like knitting

I know she likes colourful socks so I hope it's for her liking.

Woah, haven't I been slow with these... Anyways, today I can finally say they are finished! Plus, I knitted her a matching iPhone "sock"/cover because I know she loves to dress her iPhone, heh. The iPhone cover is not ready yet, I knitted it but I'm gonna put there a button and probably something so she could carry it around her neck or wrist.

They look great! Aren't self-striping sock yarns grand? I love to knit and I just made my SO a pair of fingerless gloves, he loves them. But good for you on knitting socks, I actually really hate knitting them, they're too slow going and fiddly for me, but I love hand-knitted woolen socks. What size needles did you use?

Thanks! I used size three. And yeap, self-striping yarns are awesome. I just bought a nice yarn of sort of... purple/blue/red kind of yarn, I'm gonna knit socks for my mother as a Christmas present.

I think this is an absolutely wonderful idea! I really want to do this now.

I've never knitted anything in my life, but I really want to try.

Maybe I'll ever knit him something for Christmas.

Those are so cute! I'm sure your SO will love them. ^^

My SO has knitted me socks and a scarf (in Gryffindor colors!), which I adore. She's currently working on a blanket for me, too. I wish I was that crafty. Hand-made gifts are such a sweet gesture.
