    Hello everyone! :)

    Hi! I'm Sheryl~ Found this website randomly surfing around looking for advice, so I thought I'd join. I have a really bad track record with forums though - hopefully that won't be a problem with this place!

    So um, a bit about me... I'm from Singapore (tiny little city country in South East Asia), and my SO is from San Francisco. Yay for intercultural relationships! I'm a college student in Moraga (about an hour from SF), so most of the time distance and physicality isn't really an issue. However, I do have to go home sometimes, and before me met I had been accepted for a study abroad program in Tokyo this Spring... So... We'll be 6 months apart from each other starting... now. :/ Add in 16 hours due to time difference and trying to catch each other awake and free means living in 2 different time zones. ^__^; Also, we've barely been together 4 months, and being away for 6 months freaks me out a little bit. Other than that, there is an issue of him being a white American guy, and me being a not-so-typical Asian girl from the most typical Asian family you can think of. My parents act cool about it, but I fear for my life the day my grandparents find out about it. /rambly girl is rambly somtimes

    Well, that's all for now, I hope I get to meet lots of people here! I'm really excited I found this forum, especially since I'm all new to this LDR and this is kinda my first serious relationship and gosh, there's just so much going on it's overwhelming!

        Welcome to the forums! Hey, at least your parents accept it - that's important.

        I know how you feel about time differences - my SO and I have a huge time difference (US/Australia), so we have to balance that out for seeing each other and talking, too. 6 months seems like a long time, but it's really not. You'll be done and back before you know it!

        I also studied aboard in Japan in college. Where are you headed?

            Welcome! I'm doing a similar study abroad thing and before I left, we'd only been dating for 2 months. Keep the faith, it can be done!

              Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! It cheered me up significantly since I've been grumpy at my SO today. </3

              6 months is still scary since I'm new to this. And my SO has this incredibly bad habit of coming across as though he doesn't care... And I'm scared that I'm always imposing and appearing to be too clingy. :X It's different when we were nearby but 6 months + distance = freak-out timez. I really need to work on being not so attached... I am looking forward to August though! Just holding on to that thought so I really don't panic.

              Headed to Sophia University in Tokyo! Not sure if you've heard of it though. ^_^;

                    Welcome to the forums. I can understand the time difference too, it can be really difficult to manage things around, my guy and I have 11 hours time difference at the moment (england and australia).

                        Awesome! I spent a month wandering about San Francisco and I still can get lost. The Muni routes make my head spin.

                          Welcome to LFAD Sheryl! Must be hard to struggle with that kind of time difference... But I'm sure you can do it and people on here will help you find ways to communicate with your SO. I hope you enjoy it here
