G'day. It's been nearly a year since my SO and I met. It was online and I sent him a birthday greeting after browsing his profile. Now his birthday is also our anniversary. Almost 1 year!
He lives in NY state and I live all the way over on the other side of the globe in Tasmania, an island state off the southern mainland of Australia. It takes me around 36 hours to get from Hobart to the airport near him. I can't stay as long as as we would like as I have work commitments and my daughter's school to work around. We got engaged within 4 days of our first actual meeting. It was so lovely to meet and feel so at home with each other. Now we are pacing the floor waiting for all the paperwork to happen so we can lodge for a K1 visa. Hopefully by end of May my darling SO will be able to send off the packet of paperwork we put together over Easter, and get the ball rolling. Currently I am 14 hours ahead of him. During daylight saving for USA I am 16 hours ahead. This means I speak to him in my morning, his evening of the day before, or my evening of his early morning of the same day.
It gets hard not being able to spend Friday or Saturday or Sunday nights chatting together, as I eventually need to sleep, or he does etc. And it costs so much to get to see him, a quick trip of 10 days takes 2 weeks with travel time included and costs nearly $3000. He hasn't been able to get a passport as yet, NYC health Dept issues, so although he'd love to come "down under" for a visit, he can't. But for all the difficulties we face, we are committed to making this happen, come hell or highwater! I'm joining this site to gain some encouragement in the lonely times, and pass on some encouragement to others. LDR's are not impossible and work when two people think they are each WORTH IT!
So you'll see me around the forums, and I look forward to meeting you all, as time goes by.
