I'm only an hour ahead, so we consider ourselves really lucky. But we actually met online while I was visiting my brother in New York for a few months. So I was 5 hours behind at the time. But we really didn't talk much at all back then, it was only after I came home that we started talking daily.
He's pretty adamant about getting his 8 hours per night, as he can't function on less. So I honestly don't know how we would've made it if I stayed in NY timezone. Maybe we'd never progress to what we are now.
