Hahahah, cheers! How nice of you! I'll keep that in mind, and in my desperate times i'll let you know.
Luckily though, Australia, my life destination, has them, even though they may be 'poor attempts', I don't care, so hopefully I'll live of them when I go for a visit next year.

Well, yes, to try the original original mexican food would be amazing, if you find the non-americanised place one day, let us know !

In my hometown in the States, there's a burrito place with a sign on the front that says "BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN THE WORLD" And though I've never been to Mexico, I believe they are right Mexican food here kind of sucks. And it's expensive...??? Much, MUCH better places in the states. My SO (who has actually been to Mexico) agrees.

PS- re: cart food (what I like to call "street meat" regardless of whether it's meat or not) is still alive and well. There's plenty of taco carts in Mexico. But you could also get food poisoning. It's a risk worth taking.

Haha, I will. Though I feel the same way as lucybelle mentioned... So far our Californian restaurants and taquerias have beat out those I went to in Mexico. :P I think the only type of Mexican - or "Mexican" - I'm not a huge fan of would be Tex Mex... There's a certain flavour to it that I can't quite describe but do not like at all. D: But we live about a 10 minute drive from my favourite Mexican restaurant ever; I'm quite happy to frequent it.

I joked and told my partner I'd be smuggling Mexican food into Europe and making it popular there so that I don't suffer withdrawals when I go over.

I think mexican food is quite popular over here, I mean we have mexican restaurants and such. But I'm not sure if they do it right, or theire menu is quite limited, still good though. I think Europe could use some mexican food advisors, you up for that ? ^^

Really? Maybe I should be going to Poland then! There were next to no Mexican restaurants in Ireland when I went, and none in England or France that I could see. :/ I mean, okay, maybe a couple, but they weren't what I'd call "real" Mexican. :P I would totally become a Mexican food advisor! Not sure my mother would be thrilled about that one, though... "Hey mom, I'm dropping out of school to go advise European countries on how to make and enjoy proper Mexican food. Toodaloo!"

aww how fun! We ate a ton of taco bell when my so was here lol.His first home cooked meal here was taco's and spanish rice lol, I can't say he was a huge fan, but then again, my nana tends to make her rice just a bit mushy. So next time he's here I want him to try Menudo, and chicken enchiladas! And actually the first days we were together we went to the rainforest cafe, and they had a photo booth in there store part, and we took our first photo strip together. You guys are going to have a great time! So excited for you! Have a great time!

Mm, yum! I like your plan. Expose them to flavours their tastebuds will crave like they have never craved before! What'd he think of Taco Bell? And the Rainforest Cafe? I know that's something my partner will absolutely love. I'm actually hoping to have a city day where we can explore San Francisco with my mother and sister and wrap it up at the Rainforest Cafe, partially for the ride (I'm so horrible) but also because I know that I'm going to be possessive over the week he has here and they're going to want to hang out with him too. I figure a day in the city will give them their SO-time too, haha.

haha I like that plan, were going to ttry something like that too. my SO is here 2 week and we plan to spend the first two days with them so they get there fill and will let us have our time after.

He likes Taco bell, he's had it before. His item was always a soft taco lol, and he had to re roll it himself. And we didn't eat at the rainforest cafe, just walked around the gift shop.
But walking in san fran was fun. Going down to the pier, and china town and all the shops around union square. Your going to have so much fun!

Tehe, pretty much, yes. Re-roll? How'd he re-roll it?

I'm almost tempted to. I should have a car by that point, so I'm considering maybe the family going out for a day (it'll be fun for my sister and mother, too, can't go wrong with the city!) and then he and I can spend the night and do some more things around San Francisco before heading home. This is assuming I don't bail on driving Highway 17, haha. :P But oh, I love the gift shop! I love eating inside even more! It's such a pricey place and the food isn't even that spectacular, but the atmosphere is beyond worth it.

I don't know much about Mexican food in cali, but here in NYC there's a lot of so/so places and a few that are really, really good. This place called "Tortilleria Nixtamal" is amazing, it was recently profiled on the show Unique Eats. Everything I've had there is delicious and they even give tours of the basement where they make the tortillas. . If you ever make it out to NYC, check it out-https://www.tortillerianixtamal.com/what-is-nixtamalck

We also have a TON of street carts- there are literally 3 Mexican street carts right outside the subway stop up the street from me. They are definitely authentic- you will even find the "lengua" tacos (cow's tongue). Some adventurous types will eat anything on the menu, but others will stick to the more typical offerings. The City of NY is now looking to institute a health grading policy for the street carts (all the restaurants here have grades), so that people will be more able to tell which carts are safer to eat from.

LOL. My mother's so insanely choosy with her food... She probably wouldn't eat at a cart that sold cow's tongue even if she didn't get the cow's tongue. I would though! And the one restaurant sounds delicious. If I'm ever in NYC, I'll look it up.

@Madge -- You should be able to find one in the general vicinity. I should think. Else Chicago is a sad, sad place. I think Taco Bell is one of those places you either love or hate, though...

He would get the soft taco, open it up, then tuck in the top and bottom and roll it up. haha sorry idk how to explain, hopefully that makes sense. Taco bell is my favorite fast food place though, im kind of craving it now, think i shall make tacos!

Im not a fan of langua but i think those little taco carts, and the tiny mexican places are always the best, there the most authentic usually.

Oh goodness I HATE cow tongue. Granted, I've only had it once and according to my SO I haven't had a "good one" yet. (people always say the same thing when I say I don't like steak. "You just haven't had a good steak!" No.. I just don't like it. sheesh... ) What bothered me was the texture. It wasn't a taco, just a tongue dish with red salsa over rice or something. And you could feel the papillae still on the tongue!! UGH it was awful! It was like eating your own tongue. Just awful. Also, seeing a huge cow tongue in the meat section of the grocery store is a huge turn off.
