It's not necessarily a rush, it's just been a year and 4 months and we think that's enough time to have waited before we meet for the first time. We're both in school so we're constantly looking for times when our breaks line up as potential dates.

      Hi,

I think the mistake he made while applying for the visa is stating that he is visiting his girlfriend. He should have simply stated that he would be sight-seeing and shopping, but will spend some time visiting friends. I have gone through the process and know many people who have been successful as well as people who were denied. Honesty doesn't always pay off when it comes to these people. They make the process so difficult that you have to bend the truth so as to meet their outrageous requirement.

What about his savings? It is highly unlikely that he will get a visa without enough savings to cover his trip. Sponsorship (unless it's for settlement) rarely works for countries like the USA. Even if he has to borrow the money from someone so it is reflected on his bank statements, he should do so. It will be hard for him to get a visa to Canada unless he has family/friends there, but he can try other Caribbean countries. He can select a time when these countries are having big festivals etc. so he can tell visa consul that he will be attending the festivals. He is likely to get a visiting visa then, than at other times. As a US citizen, all you would need is a passport and you'd be fine.

I'm sorry this happened; it must be difficult to deal with.

He didn't state that he was visiting his girlfriend. I had my family invite him as friends of his family without mentioning me at all. I know sponsorship doesn't work well, but it was worth it to try, lest we not have done everything within our power. He has enough money saved to pay for his trip, but I don't think he brought a bank paper, so I guess that's something we can bring if he applies next time.

        Thanks for your input. <3
