I'd say that my SO and I are more shy in person than we are when we're long distance, we both have introverted personalities in public so when we finally go out together we're not as eccentric as we are when we're apart. We're both very subtle until we're comfortable with who's around and then we let loose and go crazy.

Why don't you ask them? Only they would know.

He probably doesn't even realize it. I guess I would just ask him, it might kinda depend on your definition of shy. My SO is shy all the time, but is actually a little less she when we're texting or something verses real life.

Do you mean like your SO is shy on webcam?

initially, he was VERY shy on skype, but eventually skype became the normal and he adjusted to it and came out of his shell, so I was pretty surprised to find out he's even more shy in real life! That didn't take long to go away with me, but I can tell when we're in public he still has some of that shyness, as do I, I'm sure.
