We're both poor college students so we can only travel by greyhound to see each other, maybe once or twice a semester. That's not bad though, considering some people on lfad have a much harder time.

I would say we are pretty spoiled in our LDR what with having visits pretty often, some financial security, and lots of technology. Because my graduate school is super time intensive we cannot do surprise visits at all. If he came to visit me without my rearranging of my schedule weeks ahead of time, he wouldn't see me much at all. Right now I have to bump up work hours from a week before, schedule clients around him, and do all my homework ahead of time so its very complicated when it comes time to visit. We also are not able to do long visits, at the most is one weekend, because neither of us can afford time away from school and work.

One thing I am lucky to have is I lived with someone last year whose boyfriend was from the same place my boyfriend is, so when she went to be with him for the summer, she took a package of mine with her and my boyfriend was able to go pick it up and give her some things for me to bring back.

Our problems are,
My SO only speaks Japanese, which means he can not have conversations with my family or friends. I know this makes my mom bit sad, because she can't talk with her son-in-law.
We're not able to have visits longer than a month because of his job. He works for 5 weeks on a ship and then have 5 weeks off. Which also means that even though I'll go study in Japan for 5 months, we won't see each other more than we normally do and he'll still be gone for 5 weeks at the time.
We don't have that much contact when we're apart. My SO works 12 hours everyday, without any weekends and he has slow internet on the ship. Meaning I get a few e-mails during the week and maybe one phone call.

At the moment I can't stay with my SO for more than 3-4 days at a time, and every time I do go away with him or pay him a visit there's a ton of pressure back home. I know it could be worse though. After all, seeing each other briefly but fairly often suits us well enough

I'd like to be able to visit more often, now that I have a long visa period. But I lack both money and time. I do have long yearly vacations (my summer, her winter. I'm an ESL teacher), but I've only went up there once so far (this january). I wish she could come visit me, but I'm thankful for our companionship and our relationship in general. We talk about everything, no tabus, so that helps cope with the ophysical distance.

My boyfriend and I are fortunate that we're on the same continent and can Skype and phone each other. I'm currently making no money since I don't get paid for my internship, so I can't travel to my boyfriend. He must come to me and then when he does visit it's only for a weekend and I'm doing work most of the time. I always wish I could stop doing anything school related for him, but I can't.

Well I guess we've been together for little over a year and only been able to see each other once... although that once was a 3 month visit. We try to skype as often as we can, maybe about 4 times a week. He works and I have classes, so the time when we're both awake and at home at the same time is only about 2-4 hours a day. We can't text during the day.

Chris and I cant skype either due to the internet issue.
But it is threads like this that make me so grateful for LFAD. Like others have noted, we need to be thankful for what we DO have and what we can do with out SOs because others aren't so lucky. And sometimes we need to not sweat the small stuff, like he forgot to text me when he got home. Some people don't get texts, like the OP.Got together Jan 3, 2011~ Closed the Distance March 23, 2012~ Living Together Since June 19 2012~ Future TBD......

Reading this I've realized how lucky my SO and I are!
We both live in Europe, only about 2 hours plane journey away from each other and our parents are all quite supportive and help with costs of flights.
The only thing that we don't do, is that I send him letters and photos in the post, but he hardly ever replies to them. And I wish that we could see each other slightly more than we do (even though that's almost impossible because we're both in our last year at secondary school and can't take extra time off of school because of exams). No time zone or distance or anything can keep us apart
