    A Sweet Gesture

Well'p, here's another one of my annoying happy threads!

So life has been... hectic. My mother has been stressed out due to taxes (as has my grandfather, and I tend to be the scapegoat there), client emergencies, ever-changing schedules, etc. on top of which my sister's car ended up breaking down, and it being the timing belt, is estimated to be over a couple grand to fix. That means that the three of us have been sharing one car, and we have had to coordinate schedules as best as we can, considering I'm working and a full-time student and my sister's working full-time and a part-time student and my mother's working full-time running her own business as well. Crazy! And of course this all has to happen within the first month of school and starting after my SO left. I won't say the second goodbye was any easier than the first, or that dealing with the distance was made any easier. :/ It was all made much harder, really.

I had been absolutely miserable, and even though I managed to stay focused on school, climbing into an empty bed was perhaps the most difficult part of everything. Depression sunk in like I hadn't felt it before, primarily because there was this lingering energy and the memory of his having been occupying my house and room only x-amount of time before, and there were a lot of tears and upsets and, yes, I'll admit it, insecurities. The stress of everything else has not been helping.

So today I get into the car, and as I'm getting into the car, the mail "van" rolls up, and the mailwoman gets out of her car and approaches my mother. From afar I could see a package with my name on it but it wasn't until my mother handed it to me that I recognised my SO's writing! I tried really, really hard to preserve the brown paper, but it ended up being taped to the box and I was way too excited to bother peeling it off carefully, LOL. I pulled open the box and was immediately met with the scent of his cologne - absolutely lovely - and saw a giant chocolate Cadbury egg (complete with Crunchies, my favourite non-American treat), an inconspicuous looking plastic bag, post-it notes taped to the Cadbury box, four of them ("I," "Love," "You," "<3"), and then a post-it telling me to read the card first. I open the card, that says "I miss you" and inside "...a lot" and there's a long letter from my SO talking about the package and why he sent it to me, and it more or less began with him saying he knows how depressed I've been lately and so he wanted to send me something to cheer me up and the card was really light-hearted and loving and silly. I seriously wanted to cry! I never expect packages from him, and he kept this a total and complete surprise, the little [bleep]er. But I was so touched! I don't think anyone beyond family has ever done something so thoughtful for me! And the plastic bag? A little tube with his cologne in it!

Ironic, too, because I was talking about how I would like a birthday letter from him and then later in the day, voila, there arrives a letter! I simply wanted to share somewhere other than Facebook (first comment was from a negative ninny!) and LFAD... Well, you guys get it. I was simply so touched by the gesture that I wanted to share (read: gush).

He really is. I think it made it even better because everything he included was sentimental. He sent it, Thursday, and I'm assuming he put it together same day or shortly before, but the reason he sent the egg was because a while back I had expressed hoping I got a giant egg for Easter this year. It means a lot when he remembers the little things like that. And he sent me the cologne because he thought, on his way back home on the plane, that he should have left some here for me so that I could put some on the stuffed dog he got me for my birthday or the shirt he left me when the scent he put on them before he left went away, so that was sentimental as well.

I mean, the only other gift I've gotten from a partner before... Well, I loved it until I visited and we went looking for a gift for his father and he said, "this is where I got you your Christmas gift, by the way. I didn't know what else to get you so I grabbed it off the shelf and hoped you'd like it. " which was actually hurtful, given that we'd been dating for six months at that point and talking for a few more. It means a lot when he brings up things I've said in the past or when he remembers the little things and small stupid stories, and I guess that this package arrived right at the time I needed it most.

The fact that he remembers small details from past conversations and uses them to make you feel better when you're down sure means a lot and shows how much he is into you!

        Enjoy your stuff girl!!!

there is nothing more meaningful than when something is done from the heart. So happy it made you feel better
everything happens for a reason. We may never find out what that reason is/was, but there is a reason.

That is so sweet! Packages are a big deal for international couples (the USPS has way too much of my money ) and it's so sweet he did all that just to make you smile.

Yes, this. I have yet to -ever- recieve a letter/package/anything from my SO. I send him letters almost weekly, and I sent him a package for his birthday, but anything too big or heavy can be more expensive than whatever you got in the first place =/ .

I think i may do something like this for my SO. He is moving out of his parents soon and he is stressing himself out with work and college, this might be a good idea!
