For those who are gonna spend the New Year's without their SOs

    How many of us here?

I just realized I'm gonna spend the New Year's home with my mother and my grandmum (all of my friends are going to celebrate it with their partners).
My SO's gonna be in his own country cos he's working the 31st and the 2nd, so no chance to spend it together.

This morning it made me feel a bit sick thinking that we're gonna be apart, and even more thinking that at least he s gonna be with his friends, while i'm almost gonna be on my own.

I thought sharing it might help, how many other people in my situation?

I'm in a similar situation! I'll be working a night shift New Year's Eve so I'll be ringing in the New Year at work! woo hoo! My SO will probably be going out with friends that night and having fun. I don't feel too upset over it though, I'm not a big New Year's person and I am planning on going home next Christmas/New Year.

I'm sorry you're feeling badly about it. Maybe you can skype before he goes out and he could call you when it's New Year's? That way you could at least spend some time with him and ring in the new year together in a way.

I have never spent Xmas or New Years with my SO. This year I'm off work but she has to work. One day we will be together...soon I hope!

I don't ever spend Christmas or New Years with my SO. I have a hard time justifying paying double cost for a plane ticket just because it's a holiday. *shrugs* I'll probably work on New Years Eve (Yay, double time pay!) . My SO will be here on January 14th so I'll look forward to that date instead of focusing on not being with him over the holidays.

I think my SO will be with his daughter, so he and I won't even be able to Skype. Last year we talked on the phone (no Skype at that time) and shared champagne. It was fun, because we rang in the New Year in his time zone and then again in mine! This year, I don't think we'll be able to do anything together. I did get to speak with him Thanksgiving by phone, but I don't think I'll get to talk with him on the phone for Christmas or New Year's. I'm praying next year will be different. It is harder on the holidays, although someone said it's not any harder than the rest of the days. To me, it is. Everybody I know is spending time with some boyfriend or girlfriend, but me. It's a very romantic time, too, and that makes you want your love more. I guess it's just the nature of the LDR.

@ Heavenly: We won't be able to skype unluckily. His laptop isnt workin atm (he is going to buy another one soon) and anyway he's gonna go out straight after work i think. thanks for the suggestion anyway

@ Ahava: that's exactly the wish i'm gonna make Thank you!

@piratemama and dizzy: as pirate said, thats a particularly romantic time of the year, which is why i 'feel' his absence this much. And dizzy, we have no idea when we 're meeting again, so once again, not having a precise date (cos of his shifts in winter) makes me feel pretty helpless.

              Thank you everybody for sharing

We will not be together at Christmas or New Year. I have been sad about it, but now that it is approaching (Christmas celebrating starts tomorrow in Norway) it is ok. I will Skype or phone him every day as usual. I plan to Skype a little extra on New Years. I am hosting the party so I can do as I please Am excited over gifts I got him. My birthday is the day before New Year, but I already celebrated it with him as he hosted a surprise party on my November visit.
I made love to him only twice, she thought and looked at the man laying asleep beside her. And yet still it is as if we have been together forever, as if he has always known my life, my soul, my body, my light, my pain

Yeah... this will be my fourth year spending both Christmas and New Years apart from my SO (thus every Christmas/New Years since we've been together). I don't think that much of it because I can't change it. I wish that he could be here for the holidays because he would enjoy it a lot more than he does at home. One day, I guess...

I have never gotten a New Years kiss /: always seems to be when I'm single or just can't be with a bf. I wanted this year to be different and my SO agreed to come visit during New Years. However, being in the airforce, everyone had already overfilled the leave days during that time so the earliest he can come is January 11th. At least I'll get to see him and give him his Xmas present in person xD

Joining the party ... After two years together, we are apart for both Christmas and New Years Eve this time. It sucks! But we are gonna skype on New Years Eve, so at least something ....

Honestly he and I are ready for the holidays to be over with all the additional stress and he's in the middle of an ice storm. But we may get some champagne and celebrate on Skype with each other....if we both can stay up that late Us old folks need our rest, you know.

We won't be spending it together. We'll probably Skype like always. New year's have never been a big deal to me, so I don't care much about what we do. I'm debating going to a party with my brother, see some old friends.. Then I'll come home and Skype Shane some more

I'm super lucky and get to have my SO for 4 days and 3 nights for Christmas (he's arriving tomorrow!), but he can't stay for New Years. We might Skype til the new year comes, but I don't actually know-- he'll probably have plans and my family always hosts a party as well. Either way it's not too big of a deal for us, although it'd be fun to do the New Years kiss <3
