I wanted one before he left for germany. At first he was really into it. Then he got scared about spending money and what if we don't make it. I got a Teddy bear to sleepmwith instead. I wish I had one still. I would love to wear something that showed how much he loves me.
I love your ring though it's very pretty.

And as for your argument about it being a concept created by chain Jewelers, the same thing can be applied to Valentine's Day, Mother's & Father's Day. Does it make it any less special? Not really.Last edited by mrsbubbles; October 21, 2010, 12:15 PM.

Some people prefer just an engagement ring and others enjoy the notion of a Promise ring. Different people, different tastes, you know?

I realize that the notion of a token has been around for ages -- wearing someone's pin or class ring, for example. I just feel like people are seeing this as a way to capitalize. At least with the original, it was something that had belonged to the SO.
I know not everyone has money for engagement rings. My SO and I are in that situation at the moment, but I don't want a promise ring. I want him to save his money. The setting for the ring I like isn't much more than your average good quality promise ring (my mom offered me her engagement ring, but it's too big and I don't like yellow gold, so we're going to reset the stone).
Maybe this is just me being snobby, but promise rings are usually cheaply made, with inferior quality, and then have the price jacked up about 1000%. And if they're not engagement rings, why do nearly all of them look like they are?

My ring is simple, with a white gold band with a single pearl. The pearl was picked by him (by opening an oyster) in Disney, which has a lot of emotional significance to us, and put that on the ring. It wasn't that expensive at all and the ring is very elegant.
I think where our opinions differ is that you dislike them from a marketing aspect and I love them because of the sentiment behind it. Which is fine! Like I said before, different people have different tastes.

I'm not a sentimental person at all...I kind of fail at being a girlfriend for this reason.
