Glad I booked my tickets for this summer pretty early, I got a good price for them- around 500GBP which is normal for me. I was looking for around the time we are expecting my visa to go through which is Feb/March next year, and it looks to be around 700 for a 1-way ticket O_O I have some frequent flyer miles to soften the blow but it's still going to be expensive.

It's not just the US. It's worldwide.
I feel bad for my SO having to spend so much more on flight tickets. Thought he actually don't complain much.

Oh trust me, I've noticed. The plane flights out here are suffering as well - all the online reports state a 15% increase for this year over last year, and it's mostly tied to gas prices. Here in Oz, trying to get tickets to go see my sweetheart's dad is making us both cringe.

                Not only on the states.
We are lucky enough to have alternatives. While flying is the easiest and fastest (we both live near the biggest airports in our respective countries), we can take the train or coach. It 'only' takes 11h/16h,not very comfortable, but definitely doable.
I actually prefer to take the train, because it's more climate-friendly (it might be silly, but I actually feel bad about my frequent flying) and I just enjoy travelling by train. I didn't do it last year because flying was cheaper. But this year I'd have to pay almost double what I paid for flights last year, so trains are definitely cheaper now and I have only one class this semester, so I can go for longer than just three our four days.

Anyway, I'm so sorry for everyone. Airfare is incredibly expensive this year and it sucks for us long-distance couples (like couldn't take make all the CEO's pay more and sponsor one seat/plane for us lovesick long distance lovers??!!)

Plane tickets haven't really changed for us, but we have a short flight between each other with no layovers, so that could be why. I found tickets from me to him for $108 the other day. I know that we're in the minority, though. And we're lucky! I usually drive there, but flying is cheaper than driving for $108.

Yeah everything is going up. It's not helping with the way things are going for some people.
