Since I am at uni and pay all my bills by myself, I try to spend as little as possible on my trips (I walk 30 minutes to the tram station, take the tram to the bus station, then take the coach to one city, then walk another half an hour to take the train to the city where my boyfriend lives). I am lucky to have a generous boyfriend who pays for everything else when I am with him (he has a job and doesn't study anymore) and the cost of the food for both of us usually equals my tram+coach+train tickets. He also offered me to pay for my tickets, but I already feel bad when he takes me out and pays for taxis, buses etc. Anyway, if we were in a CDR we would probably spend even more money on going out.

Amber, if it bothers you, tell him that it's getting too expensive and maybe he could come to see you next time/contribute to your travelling costs

It is very important that both of you commit. As Silviar said, if you have the money and he has the time...What I don't see fair is for you being the one traveling all the time if he seems to have time to do other stuff.

It is very important to set days to see each other, that is what keeps you motivated. In my case, I was the one that moved to another country to study, so now I'm not working; my SO will travel to see me, It will be like 800 dollars round trip (minimum). He will stay with me so we will be expending only on food and things to do.

Anyways, I got a job, and I'm saving money because I'm planning on visit him next time.

Corey came to see me once while he was in the states and I'm guessing it probably added up to about... $400, I think. Most of that was hotel for 3 days. When he visited we didn't really go out and do much... most of the time was spent together rather than out and about because there isn't much to do where my University is. That and it was still cold out then. :P

For me to visit him, it was about $100 a visit (mostly for gas) because I stayed at his house and, once again, we didn't go out and do much because there isn't much to do where he lives. He paid for my trips, too, because I didn't have a job (still don't...) but he did. So, overall, not terrible, I suppose, in comparison to what others have spent. If I plan to go to Thailand, though, a roundtrip ticket would cost around $2000... more money than I've ever had at one time in my life.

I live in California, and she lives in Maine.

I spent about 420$ on the plane ticket (after taxes and fees)
about 300$ for the 3 night hotel stay (with my military discount, haha, don't even ask what it would of been without that!)

and than counting in some money for food and what not, the trip was roughly 1,000$ for a 3 night, 3 day stay... best money I ever spent

We're international, but I'm pretty lucky that he's relatively close (I'm in the US, he's in Nicaragua). The plane ticket is $420 plus costs while there are low- about $100 for the week (taxis and food money for his aunt, where I'll be staying). It is still really hard for me as I live in a SUPER expensive city and right now just have a temp job. I'm doing the paycheck to paycheck thing which sucks, so even the small cost of this visit is hurting me.

700$ for round trip x 2 = 1,400$ (he paid for food and I stayed at his place)
100$ on care packages and such
So about 1,500$ in all in 6 months of dating... God I hate being a student.

                  Hmm, my expenses are:
November - $800 on hotel, $400 for food
March - $500 for flight, $200 for food
This July - $800 for hotels

                  His expenses:
November - $800 for flight, $800 for hotel, $500 for food
                  March - $200 for food
                  This July - $1100 flight, $800 hotels
So he's spent more than me, and probably will again this summer, when he's here in July. LD is expensive!! Fortunately soon we'll only be commuting between Dublin and Edinburgh

My hubby is going to come out and see me in Philly halfway through my internship, and luckily my uncle is buying his plane ticket for us (we're both full time undergrads so work just very part time and have very little money) so we just have to worry about food and lodging which we're estimating to be about $500.

well I saw my SO three times. Every time I spent 900$ for the plane ticket + about 3500$ for food and other living expenses ( I was there 2xmonth and a full summer) so ehm... 6200$ I guess at the last one year. Huh. It's a lot! But it was worth every single cents of it!

                          Same here.

We see each other around every other month (either me flying to Japan, or him coming to Denmark) such round trip costs, around 1,300 USD - 1,700 USD. ( so around 1,500 USD 6 times a year). Then when he's here he also pays for food and other expenses.

He payed $900 for a round trip at christmas + $500 food and spending, + $250 on a trip to Dublin; we only needed to pay for accommodation in Dublin, rest of the time we stayed in my Uni flat and my parents.

I have spent $1000 on a round trip ticket to him for Sunday, and I guess I will probably spend very little as he is annoying and pays for everything. I have $2500 spending money, but that will be going towards a dress and possibly some furniture for our apartment.

When he visits at Christmas this year, his flight will only cost him tax so $125 I think? he earned enough frequent flyer miles to pay for the ticket. Then we will both be putting money towards a holiday in Paris which will be around 850GBP, don't know the conversion, I'm too lazy lol

There's a direct flight between our two cities with a low cost airline so in off season it's max. 100 EUR/ £85/ $140 for a round trip. Problem is they go up to 280 EUR/ £250/ $400 in high season (May-October). I realise this is nothing compared to how much some of you have to cash out, but it's annoying that it changes so much.

I pay for my own ticket and he pays for his own. We provide food and board for each other when we visit so we reduce the costs. He pays for most of the dates when I'm there, and I pay for most of it when he's here, although I think I might start tilting the balance to him paying for more. He just earns a lot more than I do and although the costs of living are a lot higher where he lives, I think he can handle it easier than me.
