Odd thing about mail?

So I've sent my SO two packages they both got to him with in two days.

He sent me a package ( first one ) a few days ago and said they told him it would take 3-5 days.
Its now going on day three and nothing >.> we didn't get any mail at all yet which we should have by now.

I'm just wondering why his packages get to him in two days and for me to get a package from him it takes three to five days?

We both used the local post office. :/

could be as simple as shipping schedules. If one or both of you are in a small town, with a small office that could affect it. Don't overlook the ability of postal clerks to be lazy s.o.b.'s as well (I say this because I was one.. so no stones please)

I'm not sure. Whatever I send to my boyfriend tends to get to his doorstep fairly quickly, whereas I end up waiting almost the max amount of days for mine (e.g. if they tell me 5-10 business days, it'll get to him in 5, whereas if they tell him the same, it'll get to me in 10). We're international, however, so it may have something to do with how long customs holds onto it, not entirely sure how the process works... In any case, there are any number of factors that can influence it, and I would do my best to be patient about it, even if it sucks being on the end where things take longer to receive. >.>

Our mail came late I just got it.

Yea, I was about to say, my dad told me a week or so ago that the mail has been slower in the US due to Post Office layoffs or cutbacks....something like that. They haven't even been good about updating the online tracker. It took forever it seems for my necklace to arrive
