I don't know actually. I like when he remembers birthdays and anniversaries, and of course I'd love to spend them together, but I can't say I'm particularly sad if we're not together in person. (We never are.) We just deal.
Christmas and NY are a bit different, I know he's bummed out we won't be together this year again, but I promised him we'll make it happen next year.

One of my visits next year will include Valentine's Day, that's the only 'special' day we will be together for. In fact, he'll be away abroad for my birthday, so we won't get to skype, best I can hope for is an email. I'll be down for sure, but mostly because birthdays always get me down.

Like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. - Steve Jobs

My SO and I haven't spend a single special occassion together yet but we make in special in our own way. Like New Years Eve last year, he made sure he was home to ring in the new year with me then i stayed awake all night to ring in the new year with him (7 hour time difference). There are plenty more i can look forward to spending with him than to dwell on the days that pass without him.
As long as there is air in my lungs... there is a chance

I really never thought about it. Somehow, he's been around for my past 3 birthdays, but I've never been for a single one of his. This year will be our first Christmas and New Years together. And we've only had one V-day and that was the day he moved in with me so we didn't do anything too big. I guess it just didn't bother me too much...

It stinks having to miss special because of distance. My boyfriend and I have never spent one anniversary together and we probably won't get to until our one year anniversary (in July). For us, nothing is definite yet, but I don't think we will get to spend my birthday or Valentine's day together, although we will be with each other a few days after Christmas and for New Year's.

For our monthly anniversaries, we have a special skype dinner date! I figured if we were CD or at least able to be in person during that time, we would go out for dinner. In place of that, we each go out and get a meal (or cook a nice one like chicken parmesan) and get on skype at an agreed upon time (if its during the weekday, our time is whenever he gets home from work) and eat our dinner.

I know it doesn't seem like much, but we really look forward to our special dinner dates! Other than that, it's really hard to do something for special days together when you're so far apart.

Seems like most of you cope with Skype which isn't an option for us because his computer can hardly handle YouTube lol. It's good to see that most of you just deal, but I'm a sentimentalist and romantic at heart. I don't want to be apart from my boyfriend and while I don't expect to be there for Christmas or New Years Eve, it would be nice to see him for Valentine's Day or my birthday. I'm going out there for his birthday but it's making me realize how much I want more time with him, especially on these special days.

For the first... well, year of our relationship, Skype was not an option for us, either. We'd just stay at home and be together on MSN messenger. I don't foresee any time that we'll be able to be together for a special day in the next 2 years if he doesn't get a visa soon, either, so... c'est la vie. No sense in making yourself miserable over something that cannot be helped.

Also, on an unrelated note, congrats on your weight loss!

Oh thanks, I've reached a giant plateau because I had previously hurt myself and am trying to fix my back and as such I'm not allowed to work out. I'm trying to go vegan for 6 weeks at a time to help me lose more weight but it's not working. lol

I just want to work out again and be at my goal.

I hate that skype isn't an option for us, I would do anything just to see his face, it would make me feel so much closer to him.
But on a happy note, we decided to delay our anniversary celebration until when we WILL be together later in the month. That makes me feel a lot better.
