Facebook chat and facebook videochat almost exclusively. Though we started with MSN way back before we became friends on facebook.
also, we text and talk on the phone.
For those who love using MSN (or Windows Live Messenger). Microsoft will close this service somewhere in March 2013 as they bought Skype or something. Can't post any URL but you can find it on a search engine easily.
Time to find a replacement as me and SO are a bit picky on webcam software.

Thanks for the information. I had no idea. I would green you if I could.

I've seen this coming for a while now. MSN has been on the decline for a few years now.

Yep, Microsoft bought Skype a few months ago. They're pushing everyone from MSN onto Skype, and, honestly, Skype isn't a terrible messenger, so we're probably going to use that. At least it will be easier to get my SO on webcam. :P
I will miss the handwriting tool, though. ):
Maybe that's why they made Windows Live 2011 so awful.

I heard about it too. What are you guys going to use instead?
Currently yahoo seems to be the best option beside it's spam about bad connection which we don't understand as we both have descent up- and download speed.
When watching movies we usually got the webcam up on yahoo and talk on msn (because I didn't have widescreen back then).
We both dislike skype due to the massive window size. :l
My SO and I use Skype to talk, call and video chat. We began with MSN though, two years back when we met until months ago I moved on to Skype, although my SO uses MSN from time to time to chat with other friends. He did tell me about it closing down and he was disappointed about it since he grew attached to MSN.
Looking for the future...

For text-chat we use the Steam chat and on rare occasions we use the facebook chat (like when steam is down for maintenance.)
For voice-chat we use our own little TeamSpeak Server, which is running on my computer and since he doesn't have a mobile phone I sometimes call him at work
For video-chat we use Skype!

Me and my SO mainly use yahoo to chat. It's been giving us problems for 2 or 3 months. I'm trying to change to facebook. Every now and then we skype but because of the connection (my SO has a slower connection) I can't hear my SO. i't still good for her to see and ehar me on skype though.
To avoid international charges we use whatsapp to text and viber to call on our phones. We use Skype on the computer for messaging and mostly video calling.
