I had a similar wait when I went over to see my SO and I had about a 12 hour wait on the way back. I really don't know what I did...I walked from one end of the terminal to the other a few times, and made sure I had a good book. I spent several hours reading, and then walking around spending a lot of time in book stores, and computers. If there are any free internet stalls around, definitely look out for them, they made time go a bit faster for me.

Well, I've never had to deal with (thankfully!) that long of a layover but this is what I suggest:

-Bring tons and tons of books to read
-Sleep. (i know the chicago airport is quite noisy but it's still doable)
-Bring a portable game system (if your much of a gamer)
      -Maybe get some souvenirs?
      -Sleep some more. haha

      ...I really don't know. XD I tried :c

I usually go around to some different souvenir shops. I make sure I eat something, especially if you have that long of a layover. I read a lot. Just take anything that you're allowed to that you enjoy doing and don't mind spending a lot of time doing.

If it were me, I'd use the time to check out Chicago. Do a little research beforehand, and grab a taxi that'll take you to some touristy areas. If you're in the tourist spots, it should be easy to get a taxi back to the airport in plenty of time. You'll have to go through security again though.

I wanted to use the wireless internet connection at the airport, but for some reason it didn't work so my laptop was useless for all those hours.

Definitely look for free internet, shops, drink a coffee, eat something at a restaurant or walk through the whole airport and explore everything.

I wanted to buy some food myself, but I only had my credit card and I didn't want to ask them if I could use it for one meal. Although I probably could have. But no, I only sat on a chair doing nothing.

I've had to deal with layovers before but never one quite that long. I usually have a book with me, so I'll spend some time on that. I almost always look for the internet booth/wireless connection for my blackberry or laptop to send an email to my boyfriend with a quick update. When I had a layover in Japan there was this cool Japanese google wireless table thing that I thought was cool. Other than that, I eat and sleep. (:

I always have long layovers...ughhh. Naw they're not that bad. I usually just walk around the airport a few different times. I stop in all the shops and pick out where I'm going to eat. Depending on the airport, there is sometimes free wifi. Or I just find a plug for my laptop and watch movies.

When I was in the chicago airport for a layover I bought some wireless internet. it was a little pricy but I didn't care. I read, I wrote in my journal, ate at chilis I think. Bought a couple magazines. I would go see some chicago if you have the time but just make sure like moon said to leave enough time to get back

I'm from Singapore and anytime we board a plane is to go out of the country. I had no idea you could even leave the airports during layovers. /: I feel a bit stupid now. But I've had a lot of fun exploring the airports in different countries. They all work the same but can be so different it's amusing, especially if none of the signs are in English.
