Chicago Airport is huge, they have a lot of statues and model airplanes inside, walking around the Chicago airport depending on what you want to do can take 2 hours, but I would recommend maybe leaving the airport for a little bit to check out Chitown a little but if you do make sure you give yourself plenty of time to go through security and to your gate.

Sure, you can leave the airport Its easy in your own country, just walk out the door, but trickier in foreign countries. If you're in a country where you don't need a visa (US <-> EU, for example), you'll still need to go through customs and get your passport stamped, but you can wander around. Just get back with plenty of time to go back through security. If its a country where you need a visa, just stay in the airport. There are some airports that have small hotel-like rooms you can rent hourly to take a shower or a nap, if you have a really long layover. I've only seen them overseas though, not sure if they have them in the US, and I have no idea how much they cost. I'd imagine they're expensive though, as they're designed for business travelers.

Just posting this since a few of you said you didn't know you could leave the airport! Happy journeys, guys!

I love walking around and people watching (I'm not a stalker I promise! It's just fun watching how different people are)
I would recommend knitting, if you're into that.
Bringing a gaming device (my SO is into that. lol )
          Hmmmmmm, eat?

Be aware that if you leave the airport, O'Hare isnt exactly near the touristy things so leave yourself at least an hour more than you think you'll need to get back in case of traffic etc.

I would ask the cabin crew about stuff to do in the airport. I did that when I had a short layover and it sounded like there was tons of cool displays and galleries and stuff but in the end I didnt have time to do any of it!

Do you have a project on your computer you could work on? I spend a lot of time editiing together videos or cataloguing my photos on my hardrive (yeah I'm a geek...) You'd be surprised how quickly the time goes with project like that.

Or as mllebamako suggested take a case of DVDs, especially ones with your fav TV shows and kill time that way.

My biggest advice (from someone who gets bored easily and has a short attention span) take a wide variety of things to do. Also try really hard not to "clock watch" its like the worst thing in the world!
