BEST way to travel to NY from NC

CAR? From my house to his is a 12 hr 40m drive. I drive an 03 Taurus. I also have never driven in NY but he lives on Long Island.

BUS? Never ridden a bus before. Also, I look like a little kid because I am very short and don't have very prominent features.

or FLIGHT? Ive flown before. I'd be leaving from ethier MYR or ILM to go to LGA.

What is the cheapest way to go? I'm hoping to go sometime in May before prices quickly shoot up X:

I've never been to NC but, I have friends who regularly drive down and say its really not that bad of a drive. Personally when I go anywhere south of PA I fly. All and all a flight and a drive might add up to similar amounts with gas and tolls and food. Meanwhile a flight would take like 2 hours...lol (I love flying =P). So, its up to you.
