The first two years we saw once a year, then last year during the fall we saw three times! This year unknown but hopefully he will be here in May and possibly in the summer too. I want to start talking about closing the distance but there are severe issues to deal with before that...

I haven't met my boyfriend in person just yet, but we have a visit scheduled for June. We are hoping to visit at least twice a year. More if it all possible. It depends on a lot of things, really. Plane tickets are quite expensive ($400 round trip), and since we are both currently minors, coming up with the money for the trips isn't easy right now.... which is why we are just going to try for twice a year, and go from there.~~~ ~~~

I would guess we meet around 7-8 times a year but sometimes (depending on our schedules for longer periods, max. 4 weeks.
To OP: have you checked train options? I know it sounds crazy. It wil take you aaaaages aswell but for me trains are about 25 % cheaper than flights.
Also, since france is considerably cheaper than norway, I guess for the future try to plan to get her there rather than you go to norway.
The way we deal with it is that we split all the costs 50/50. no matter who of us goes, so we pan out the costs over a longer time so its less to pay all at once. Even if you have considerably more money than she has maybe you can come up with a 75/25 split system or something.
But really its all down to really good research. Compare airlines, check the options for different airports, get creative. With places to stay aswell, maybe there us some bed and breakfast style option, a hostel or she has a friend with a spare room. Why can't you stay at her place? Figure out when it is cheapest to book. I understand summer and holidays is the time you are both free but summer is also most expensive for travelling so maybe make sure you really cant take of a week on another time.

I hope he can come for 2-3 months next time, to take advantage of his off season (and hopefully him being done with the last of his studies) until he starts a year round job. He needed a lot of adjustment time the 4 weeks he was here last time, plus if he stays 8 weeks I can get him into an express language class. Since I bought a bigger flat we can afford the housing. So then there will be fewer visits due to him staying longerI made love to him only twice, she thought and looked at the man laying asleep beside her. And yet still it is as if we have been together forever, as if he has always known my life, my soul, my body, my light, my pain

So far this year we've seen each other once. I am flying back in July for 6 weeks and then I am hoping I can spend 3 weeks at xmas. So it will be 3 times. He is hoping to come here next year and then we are hoping to close the distance. But Unsure as to how that will go until I take my exam in October.

Once a year in the summer
She didn't have a job last year so we got some money from VERY AWESOME FRIENDS and we both saved whatever we could find, and had a long visit for fun
This year she has a job so the visit is shorter (laaaame) but we'll have a thousand dollars to spend freely
Hopefully if we get better with me having a job or she keeps being well liked in her job we can try Christmas visits too...I can hope ><Met: Apr 2013

Currently 1, and I hate that not having money is such a huge impact on my life that I have to save for it for months and months and still can't afford to see him without other people's help...

Hey we are managing to see each other two or three times the year. But also for a longer time, like about for few months. I just came back for my last time in Europe after a half a year in Argentina. But this means that i will not see my SO now till Christmas. Its manageable, stay strong

We have seen each other twice a year so far. Right now we are looking at a longer visit from him during which he will study German at a languag school. If it wasn't for the money, we'd already be closing the distance for good. Hopefully by end of this year though.
Good luck for you two!

I've only seen my SO once in the time that we've known each other. (Just this past weekend.)
I work two jobs, so I make a decent amount of money (I'm only 18), so I was able to use my vacation pay and an off-week for bills to make the trip, and it didn't cost me too much. I did pay for all of it, but he let me stay at his place and got me food and stuff, so he saved me +500$ at a hotel.
The entire trip cost me about 800$ CAD or 675$ USD, which is about 3/4 of one of my paycheques, that includes my gas, and when we ate out, and the little trinkets that I bought. We ate out waaay too much, which did cost me most of the money that I took, but if we stuck to eating home-cooked meals, which I'm planning for next time, I probably would have come home with more than just 100$.
I'm hoping to see him for a longer time later in the summer, hopefully again on Thanksgiving weekend, probably spending Christmas there, as well as Spring break (any time I can get off from classes) to HOPEFULLY moving there the summer following that.
