Because it's still 7 months till you become a legal adult it still means that your SO could face time in prison for sexting you, even if no pictures are involved if the content of the message is sexual it still counts, you don't need to be having sex with him for it to be against the law.

Trust me, I really do understand where you're coming from I was your age when I met my SO and unluckily for me I had to 18 to participate in anything remotely sexual and the wait was awful (I just turned 18 in February) I know that you want nothing more than to just simply enjoy becoming an adult but for your SO's sake please wait until your 16 to continue sexting.

and I think what your mom did was wrong but you do live in her house and she probably pays the bills on your phone/internet so until you can pay for those things yourself I can see how she feels she has the right to dictate how you use them, even if it's invasion of privacy and it sucks it's just part of being a teenager, no one is trying to say you aren't smart we are just trying to give you some insight into how most adults would see the situation and believe me when I say until you're of legal age almost everyone is going to judge you and your relationship on some level or another that's just the way society is.

Is it? I thought only if pictures were involved it was illegal because of child porn. Or if the messages were viewed as harassment? I was just wondering...I don't really know. That's what I have heard though.

I believe so, yes. Here I know any sexual activity between a minor and an adult (18 here), consenting or not, is illegal.

In my state sexting is defined by explicit pictures and or graphic sexual content meaning things like role playing sex scenarios and is punishable by up to 17 years in a federal prison. I guess it counts as possession of child pornography (if pictures are involved), obscenity and indecency with a child.

If I was your mom, I'd be upset too. If some 19 year old stranger was sexting my 15 year old daughter, I'd not only cut off contact but also report him to the police. Too many creeps out there, and you're very young.

Also, I think sexting (by anyone at any age) is trashy. It's just... unclassy. Save it for the bedroom. Just my personal opinion on the matter, not directed at anyone.

Just wanted to point out that age of consent is not the same as becoming a legal adult (which depending on how you look at it, in the US can be defined by voting age or drinking age). It is simply the age a person is considered competent to consent to sexual activity.

Plus, once you do become 16 (or however old the age of legal consent is), in a lot of places that only means you can have sex with guys under 18. Here in CT, if you're 16 (age of consent) and have sex or sext someone above 18, that person could still get in trouble and go to jail. Trust me, when my dad found out about my SO and I's age gap, he made me well aware of the law and that he wasn't afraid to report him. It'd be horrible if you or your SO got in trouble for it. Not only would he go to jail but he'd be labeled a sex offender for the rest of his life. Just think about the consequences of that over the few minutes of fun you'll have.

True I guess I should have clarified myself a bit, I forget that the age of consent isn't always the same as becoming a legal adult because in my state 18 is both age of consent with those who are older than 16 and the age when you become a legal adult. But from what it looks like consent for sex in her state is 16 so she would be allowed to sext him when that time comes.
