I met my SO 29 years ago as an exchange student. We hit it off immediately and he became my teacher and guide (and boyfriend) while I was there. The exchange program threatened to send me home early because we spent so much time together! My program ended after three months and I went back home. We lost contact for 28 years until he contacted me on Facebook last autumn. We fell in love all over again! My ticker will go here one of these days...

This is a bit of a two part story, given our circumstance.
To begin with, I had posted my photo in a Valentine's day thread on Imgur last year. For those who don't frequent the site, it's kind of taboo to post selfies there generally, but someone had made a thread for those of us who were single and feeling lonely on the day. He commented on my picture, and was quite sweet. We ended up talking for hours and hours, eventually moving the conversations over to Skype a few days later. For the most part we talked every day.
Even from the beginning we talked about meeting in person despite the long distance between us, him being from the UK and me from the US. I was hesitant having had experience with the LDR drill before, knowing how it feels like you're going to cry forever every time you have to say goodbye and all. But we gave it a go anyways. The chemistry in person was wonderful. We slept in the same bed from the first night together, just... had an incredible time. He made me feel so comfortable and sexy and wonderful. Obviously eventually he had to go home though, which was sad. But I knew that I'd see him again.
Sadly in the end of August last year we lost contact. It was due to a sort of conflagration of computer problems and fear and pride. We didn't speak for almost six months. I thought he'd abandoned me completely. I was devastated. Couldn't eat for weeks, didn't want to sleep because I dreamed of him every night. I won't dwell on that bit too much though, because here in comes the second part of the story.
By a stroke of fate at the beginning of February this year, we reconnected. Turns out he'd though I'd abandoned him... neither of us had wanted to be the one who begged, and we'd both given up. He had been every bit as broken by that as I had been. We were both still in love with each other. And so we're together again.
Things are a little different this time. There's a lot of hurt to heal, but we're doing alright with that. And it turns out I was right. I will see him again-- I'll be leaving to visit him in just over a week.

Thanks! I feel like giving it a second go is risky... riskier than the first even, and I'm honestly terrified. (admittedly, I'm a serial worrier, if it's not one thing it's another, but still.) I'm incredibly happy I have the chance though. I've never felt so much love for someone.
I read your post as well, though. And seems we're compatriots in Second Chances! What an incredible thing it is to find a person you love again.

I'm from the U.S. and was house-sitting for a family friend in the U.K. in December. I was out in the wops, pretty isolated except for the dogs and the pony, and I was bored, so I browsed Tinder just for fun. I matched with this guy, and after a week of light chatting about climbing and some common travel experiences, we agreed to meet up for a meal at a pub near me -- I walked half a mile to get there; he drove almost an hour.
Our simple dinner date turned into a non-stop, 3-day "date" that only ended because the couple I was house-sitting for was coming home, and I had a flight back to the states.
We both felt we had experienced something special, so we talked about the possibility of trying to date regardless of the distance. We're at similar points in our lives, and are looking for the same things (stability, a relationship to invest in), so it seemed silly to write each other off simply because of distance.
So, we're trying. I'm here in the UK visiting for a while to see how things go. We're at the very beginning of our adventure (I've been here for almost three weeks), but things are going well so far, and I'm optimistic.
Time will tell!

My boyfriend and I met on a social site as we both have a lot of similar interests. We spoke on text chat on Skype after a while and stated gaming together. Things just naturally progressed from there as we have so much in common. I told him I would like to visit him and I flew over to meet him. Things were perfect those 2 weeks we spent together and I can't wait to see him again.

My husband and I met about seven years ago, around September of 2007. We were both beta testing an online game at the time; Pirates of the Caribbean Online. He was trying to invite me to his guild, although I was away from the computer. When I came back to the computer, I see the message saying. "Why are you ignoring me lol." So, I write back to him, we start to game together, and then soon we exchange MSN contact details. It was all history after that, lol.

Me being from Poland and him from USA- it's obvious that we met in Australia!
I love telling this story, because what are the odds?
We're both uni students, and went for a semester abroad to Australia. During introduction week I planned a road trip with new friends, and he happened to sit next to me and introduced himself. So I asked him if he would want to go for a 10-days road trip across Australia with 4 random people that we just met. Of course he agreed. We fell in love during that road trip, and became couple a week later. During our semester abroad we spent almost every single day together for amazing 6 months.
It's crazy how random it was, and how different our lives would be if we would sit somewhere else that first day and never talked to me

Squee and I met on an online role-playing game. I wasn't actually a player of the game but part of the server staff. From previous experiences I had learned that it's a good idea to keep all staff-player interactions game-related and professional so for the first few months I wasn't really talking to any players unless there was a problem. This went on for a while and I was quite happy that there were next to no rumors going on about me favoring certain players or abusing my admin powers.
Until one day I got shipped with Squee, one of the players. It happened out of nowhere; We hadn't talked before and the person shipping us together didn't really know anything about us either. In fact, people couldn't even possibly know whether I was single, male and straight. It literally was nothing but a joke at that point. For some reason though, it caught on. Especially one of her friends was very supportive of this so-called 'ship'.
By that time Squee was already part of a small group of players who would meet on a private TeamSpeak server (a server/client-based voice chat for those who don't know) every day while playing the game and eventually I kept getting asked to join. One day I was sort of bored and figured it couldn't hurt to drop by for a bit. Their reactions were overwhelming, in fact they didn't even believe it was me at first but assumed they were being trolled by one of their friends. We talked for a bit, me cautiously weighing every word I said, both to prevent rumors and to keep me from making a fool out of myself by butchering the English language.
I almost immediately realized that I happened upon a group of extremely cordial people and before I knew it I found myself joining their chat every day although I rarely talked. After all, I still tried to maintain my professional demeanor but even though I wouldn't have admitted it at the time, something about Squee's voice and the way she talked caught my attention and I found myself being disappointed every time she wasn't around when I logged in. As time went by I became more and more talkative, too.
Now, I can be sort slow and oblivious at times so Squee was the first to show more interest. She would tell me stories about her real life, ask me questions about mine. She even went through a whole collection of baby names trying to guess my first name from just three vague clues I gave her. Other times she would get me involved into friendly bets such as 'Two truths, one lie' with the loser having to post a picture of themselves.
This went on for about two months...
People met on that TeamSpeak server every day. We talked, joked, laughed, watched movies and discussed a wide variety of topics, not just the game they were playing. At the same time they were trying to find and complete a series of bonus quests I developed all by myself. It was so much fun watching them try to get any sorts of clues out of me.
Then around Christmas I went home to visit my family and that entitled being unable to get onto that TeamSpeak server for the time being. That's when I finally realized how much I actually missed those people, Squee in particular. Luckily I got a smartphone for Christmas (Yes, I still didn't have one) and while we still couldn't talk it at least enabled us to chat while I was at my parents'. And it really saved me there.
Once I was back at my place it only took us another week to awkwardly confess that we liked each other (again with her taking the first step) and that's when we decided to give this LDR a try. We've had this special connection from the very start and there've been too many uncanny coincidences along the way to let roughly 4650 miles inbetween stop us from trying. Not even a month later we decided to meet in person and so I'll be flying over to America in August.
One last word about that friend who's been shipping us. We're her OTP now and coincidentally Squee and I will be together for her birthday so she's going to receive pictures of us as a present.

We met on Omegle!
It's a crazy awesome story. He was procrastinating his homework, I had just come home drunk from a party and a friend suggested fooling around on this site to see who we'd meet.
Almost 4 years into our LDR and we're living together, have closed the distance and applying to be common law. <3
PM me if you'd like to chat, I'd love to meet and chat with others!

I do quite love "how we met" stories.
We physically met while I was on holiday. We initially "met" on a chat app a few months before trip. We chatted frequently until my trip and then decided to meet. I am from the states and was in Scotland as a solo traveler. He is from Edinburgh (where I was staying) so we arranged to meet for a coffee even though he lived an hour away.
We Had only planned on coffee but we ended up walking about the city, doing a walking ghost tour tour, grabbing a pint at a few pubs and up having dinner and taking in some live music until closing time around 12A. We hung out two more times after that before I flew home. We kept in touch as friends (I was just coming out of a rocky LDR of sorts) over the summer and talked every single day. I started developing feelings for him as more than friends and we made it official when I moved to Wales for university. Sadly, he's still living in Scotland And I'm in Wales. We're so close yet so far from each other!!!

Initially I was supposed to be going on a family holiday with my original boyfriend of 3 years but he broke it off about 2 months before our trip.
This is were I met him, he was a DJ at the bar of the resort I was staying at, he became friends with my family and then spoke to me with only 3 days left of my holiday, we had a instant connection he made me laugh and smile and feel so special
We then left and I kept in contact with him and recently went back to fiji and stayed with him and his family for 5 days
We were inseparable for those 5 days and I was my happiest, I am now back in Aus
Waiting for him to come to Australia at the end of May for one month!
Fingers crossed everything works out

First post here, so better start with how I met my girlfriend.
It is actually a Disney lovestory, haha. We both participated in the Disney International College Program, an opportunity where students from all over the world can gain an international learning, earning and living experience in Walt Disney World, Florida. We both did the program and after four months of six into our program I was standing outside her apartment building, waiting for my friends. She knocked the window, waved to me and I went to her door to say hi. 11 months later we are still together, I have visited her country Honduras twice and she has been a month to the Netherlands. We are planning to get together next year February/March!
