We are 9 hours apart at the moment (when daylight savings changes we end up being 11 hours apart) it's very difficult to manage similar sleeping but we do it, I go to bed really late for an aussie (like between 3am-6am) and he goes to bed pretty early for someone from the UK (before 10pm). I get up around mid-day because i work afternoons/nights. He will wake up at around 4-5am and talk to be before he goes to work (if I'm not at work).
It works really works for us, yes it's a bit crazy but it really helps with feeling closer and not on completely opposite timezones (which we basically are..) and we really wouldn't have the chance to talk during the week if we slept at normal times for our countries. We have a little joke that we live in 3 time zones; australian, uk and our own little timezone
