So excited my bf bought me the basic game to play, yay! :3 He says he wished he'd bought me the expansions too since they were on sale (although I did mention to him what Zephii posted a page back), but while that'd be fun to play too, I'm just excited I still get to at least play the basic game with him

...except he just bought Cataclysm so not sure how much I'll be seeing of him for awhile >.>

Usually I'd think that was crazy, but that's exactly what Obi did and they let him have it because the end date of the sale wasn't properly displayed on the website. You'll have to decide quick tho.
It's not the actual game price i'm worried about it's the subscription. I currently don't have the funds the shell out 15 bucks a month for a game :c Maybe once I get a job I will look into it. But I also want to get off my mom's cellphone plan and switch to verizon once i have an income lol... so idk haha

Yeah, the subscription fee is full of suck. It makes me cringe. >.> They could at least let couples/families bundle or something!!

I told Clay about GW being a one time buy and not $15 a month and that did spike his interest! I told him I would play Wow with him if I could afford to... but seeing as he can't even afford that every month I don't see how he can complain

Hey, I just thought I would add my 2c, since I've played both WoW and GW. Mind you, I played GW a long while ago, but I'm pretty sure the differences remain the same. Besides the obvious different game mechanics, end game options wise, GW is more focused on PvP action, whereas WoW is more focused on PvE, and it's PvP is lacking in comparison to GW, or so I've heard. But then, this may be outdated, as I played GW a long time ago, but stopped playing since I was a WoW junkie.

lol! I'm going to sound like such a noobie but PvP is player vs player, right? I haven't heard of PvE but I'm guessing player vs everyone?

Last time I played GW I played with people, they helped me with quests, fighting and whatnot

Hehe sorry about that. You're right with PvP, and PvE is just player vs. environment, so in the case of WoW, that would be running 5man dungeons, or 10/25man raids. In Guild Wars end game, I think it's typically 5v5 arena type matches that you do, if I recall though there is a quest aspect to it you have to go through, but again, this is just what I've heard. A friend of mine was a GW junkie, so that's where I have all my info from, it could be incorrect or outdated by now. >.>

We just started playing the trial version, he's played before so hes teaching me. It gives us a fun activity to do together and is more involved than the shorter flash games we've played. I didn't expect to like it as much as I found out I do. I end up initiating us playing . Sadly it only lasts for 10 days but I'm on break from school so once it starts again I won't really have time anyway :/ it's not really text based rpg but it's fun interacting with him physically somehow lol. I like the gnomes because we can dance together how we do in the clubs ;p. We log on skype and talk to each other while he helps me learn. I'm having a good time with it and he is too especially because he can play with his girl ^_^

Brandon bought me the game and ALL the expansions for Christmas, we've been having SO much fun playing together and leveling up together. He got me into PvP and loves getting to teach me everything. He hasn't played for a few years and so the world has changed alot, but he still remembers most of the basic gameplay. The subscription fee isn't that bad, I think it will be manageable if I cut my alcohol budget down abit XD

Wow is very fun, but ugh I got addicted to it :| my bf did too, but we worked on it together and toned it down.. a lot. So be careful but yes, like others have said, it's a very fun game. I met my bf there and made some friends too

I got a trial account and played it with my SO, and we had a lot of fun. But now my trial is out and with the next school semester starting I won't have the time to play. The small amount I can play isn't worth the price. So I'll be working on homework and music auditions while my SO sits on his butt and plays wow >

There's so many games to choose from really. We have World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Guild Wars, EVE online, Lord of the Rings Online and many many more.
Of the above mentioned World of Warcraft got the least advanced graphics. Not saying it's bad but if you like heavy graphics WoW would not be the game for you.
World of Warcraft is the most well-known game of the bunch because it came at the right time and contained the right thing. It was also based on a very popular strategy game and quickly reached fame. Every game after it has tried to differentiate itself in some way. Warhammer Online got a lot more classes for example.
As said before none of these games fits everyone. If you like PvE and end-game material then WoW would certainly fit you. If you like a game focused on WAR then Warhammer might be the game for you. If castle sieges and a bit slower PvP is your thing, Age of Conan could make you happy. If you like arena-based PvP and a world of your own, go get Guild Wars. If you enjoy space and want to make your way through the galaxy, then hop on EVE. If you like roleplaying mixed with a focus on PvE then move to Middle-Earth in Lord of the Rings Online.

                              The following require subscription:
                              World of Warcraft
                              EVE online
                              Warhammer Online
                              Age of Conan

Guild Wars require you to buy the game and is then free to play

Lord of the Rings Online was previously subscription based but is now free to play. The basic game is free but you have to pay a small fee to unlock quest packs and regions. Expansions also cost.

Lord of the Rings Online btw got a great and mature community and is awesome for RPing.
I was minister when my two best friends got married in the game and we held a ceremony.
