Hi there, this is a fantastic post!! I am turning 40 in a couple of months my SO is 49 next week, and I wish all I had to think about being in a LDR was spending money when I go see him or what my parents might think, but with 2 teenage children closing the distance is a lot more complicated than I ever thought it might be.

Hi Blankita, I just joined last night. A newbie for sure! I am 51 and my Long distance boyfriend is 50. I guess I should be referring him as my SO? Please tell me the lingo on here! My best guess is that SO stands for Special Other? How close am I? LOL!!

Only 270 miles apart? It seems like forever away! But looking at the distance between you and your honey....I shouldn't be complaining! Retta, Where are you and what city does your guy live in? Mine lives in Knoxville.

I'm also new here, I'm 33 and my SO is 37. Although we're not long distance YET he's flying to NYC next week to live and work there. He's staying at least a year...

So hey! I definitely fit in here! im very very new, and nice to see some others in the same boat. i am 38 and my SO is 14 years my junior...you couldnt find a happier couple!
we have struggled with the whole age issue garbage from people around us - strangely enough? my girl is far more mature than most of these people. with a better outlook and a better idea of what she wants and where she wants to go in life.
Nice to meet you all and be a part of some good conversation and stories

I'm 38 and my SO is 41. I dated him for a short while when I was 17, but I felt he was too much of a "good guy" for me. Eighteen years in a crappy relationship taught me otherwise, and I've found myself back in his arms. Other than the distance, I couldn't be happier. Now comes the hard part of closing the distance. This is where I envy the youngsters who don't have children and careers to worry about.
Anyhow, I'm glad there's a space here for us more experienced folks! =)

We already closed the distance, but I turned 30 back in January. I'm a college drop-out, and now seriously considering going back to school in 2014, so I'll again be having to deal with college issues. It'll be so different going back as an adult with all the adult responsibilities. I know I won't be the only older student there, since the trend of adults going back to college is on an upswing. I've gotten used to the routine of being a non-student so it will be a huge adjustment. I also feel a little out of place in the main forums at times when people are talking about trying to get their parents on board and such.

My SO and I are both over 40. Our relationship is only pretty new, we met June 2013 at a wedding in Indonesia (I live in Australia).
I am still finding my feet but am heading back to visit in August. After that I will have to do some soul searching to work out whether I will be able to cope with a LDR.
I am hoping that everyone here wil give me some positive thinking and advice in relation to LDR's along the way!
